Welcome to this week’s Rovers newsletter.
With no junior games on this weekend, it’s a chance for our youngest players, families and volunteers to enjoy a well-earned breather as we tick off the first half of the season. Thank you to everyone for the effort, enthusiasm and support so far it really shows across the club.
Our senior teams are still in full swing, so make sure to get down and cheer them on over the coming weeks. We’ll keep you posted on junior training and game dates as we head towards the new year.
A big congratulations to our two 1st Grade debutants yesterday, Joe De Lange and Blake Watson!
Joe has been a trustworthy keeper and handy bat for the mighty 2’s this season and helps out wherever and whenever needed at the club. He joined his brother Ruben for the game yesterday and we will certainly see more of them together in 1sts soon.
Blake Watson has been reaping a very successful start to the season, dominating in Colts, moving to the opening bowler for 2nds and finding great form there as well. His speed is growing, his lines are relentless and he’s growing more dangerous by the week.
Well done to both!
Congratulations to our Rovers U18s!
A huge congratulations to our Rovers players Archie, Ian and Tommy on a fantastic and successful U18 tournament, taking home the championship title. An outstanding achievement and a credit to all the hard work, commitment and teamwork shown across the weekend.
A special mention also goes to Kael the assistant coach, who played a key role in guiding and supporting the team throughout the tournament. Your leadership and dedication helped steer the boys to victory, and we are incredibly proud to have you representing Rovers.
Well done to everyone involved and what a brilliant result for CFN!
TWOMEY SCHRIBER PROPERTY GROUP 1ST GRADE
After the tough defeat last week, Rovers ventured out to Walker Road for a much-anticipated day–night clash against Mulgrave.
Winning the toss, Rovers elected to bat. Dayne and Dev got us off to a steady start, building a 37-run opening stand before Dayne was bowled. Despite this Dev expand his game, repeatedly peppering cover and mid-off with some extraordinary stroke play.
With the game nicely poised, Marcus fell to Will Robinson, bringing World Cup-winning hero Eddy to the crease. Looking in good touch, he struck several powerful blows to the leg-side boundary before being caught at cover to a sharp chance.
Unfortunately, from there the innings stalled as we struggled to find a consistent partner for Dev, who continued his brilliant display. He was eventually dismissed in the final over for an exceptional 92. Rovers finished the innings on 8/181.
Taking the new ball, Henry bowled with genuine pace and claimed our first wicket. Despite further chances and near-misses, Mulgrave then built a solid partnership before Eddy broke through, dismissing Vicky with a clever back-of-the-hand slower ball. Momentum looked to be shifting our way when Ruben removed the dangerous Matthew Wilkins thanks to a sharp catch from debutant Blake Watson.
Mulgrave, however, steadied through a match-winning partnership between Jake Roach and Kobi Johnson. Despite some impressive spells from Blake and Eddy—who eventually dismissed Kobi—Mulgrave made short work of the remaining 20 runs, finishing 5/185 off 35 overs.
Plenty of positives again as we look ahead to clashes with Cassowary Coast and Atherton before the Christmas break.
RED BERET 2ND GRADE
Mighty 2s 1-102 defeat Mulgrave Punjabi All Out 100
The toss of the coin continued to evade the Rovers captains which lead to us being sent in on what looked like a batter friendly pitch.
The old saying catches win matches truly shone today with screamers by Thresher, Lock and Watson. Smithy will be proud and the Poms envious of our fielding throughout the day.
All of our bowlers kept things tight with Northy taking 4fa and Watto 3 restricting the Punjabi side to all out for 100.
Chasing a smaller total we made a decision to send Joel in to cut into that lead as quick as possible… Enter Liam Devietti. A 46 opening run partnership off 5 overs, of which Joel made 5. Dev continued his cracking form with an unbeaten 62 and Sanjay steering us home with 18*.
Awesome win leading into the break boys.

TIER 3 U18 SUPER GLOBAL SERVICES ROVERS
Super Global Services Rovers 6 for 156 defeated Norths 85
Santa may still be a few sleeps away, but the Super Global Services Rovers delivered an early Christmas present in the form of a clinical, confident and at times downright theatrical win over Norths.
With our stand-in skipper Luca winning the toss, he chose to bat first on a morning at GP1 that had a comfortable breeze that felt perfect for runs. A solid start set the tone, and the top order delivered a festive feast of batting. Thomas anchored beautifully for 40 off 77, Luca punched out a lively 35 off 43, and Hugh added a classy 30 off 49. Their combined efforts laid the foundation for an above-par total of 6 for 156 off 35 overs, giving us a strong platform to work with.
Norths began their chase nicely and heading into the over before drinks they were sitting comfortably at 3 for 64, right in the contest. Then came the moment that flipped the entire script.
Luca casually tossed the ball to Will for the last over before drinks… and what followed was pure Wild West theatre.
Will strode in like a sharpshooter at high noon – bang, bang – two wickets in quick succession, and suddenly Norths staggered into drinks at 5 for 68, looking like they’d just seen a ghost.
And if that wasn’t enough of a turning point, the post-drinks period brought carnage of its own. With the fifth ball after drinks, Riley snapped up another wicket. Then Ashton entered the attack and ripped the heart straight out of Norths’ batting lineup.
Taking 2 wickets in 2 balls and somehow the hatrick ball evaded the off stump and the edge of the bat by a whisker, but Ashton wasn’t done.
Three balls later, he leapt into the air like a salmon escaping a bear and plucked a caught-and-bowled screamer. It was so good that it may have stolen the spotlight from Michael Neser’s Gabba highlights reel.
In his next over, Ashton claimed the final wicket to close the match and seal Norths’ fate. All out 85, game over.
A dominant bowling display, and a clinical team performance from first ball to last.
Players of the Match:
• Will – The Wild West wizard with the match-turning double strike
• Ashton – Four wickets for 1 run, a near hat-trick, a stunning caught-and-bowled, and total destruction Norths batting line-up.
A massive thank you to Cass for scoring and Tim for helping with the umpiring. Without volunteers our kids don’t get to do what they love, and days like today simply wouldn’t happen.
Also a big shout out to Finn and Ashton and stepping in with classy displays.
Enjoy the Christmas break everyone. Rest up, recharge, and we’ll see you all firing again at the end of January. The Rovers march on!
TIER 3 U18 FNQ NATURE TOURS ROVERS
Tier 3 FNQ Nature Tours v Mareeba
After losing the toss we were asked to have a bowl which we didn’t mind too much with the damp overcast conditions there to help us out.
Edges were the order of the first hour but with none going to hand, plus a couple of drop catches, we were left wondering what could have been as Mareeba posted a competitive 112 from 34 overs a very slow Endeavour Park field.
Our run chase started positively with an opening partnership of 46 however once it was broken the innings stuttered a little and we were never quite able to get the momentum back eventually finishing 10 runs short.
Players of the match awards went to Cooper who top scored with 27 (84) and Travis who produced his best bowling spell of the season with 1/9 from his four overs.
We’re all extremely grateful to our Tier 2s – Charlie, Kai, Niel and Jo for stepping up to help us out.
I hope everyone enjoys the Christmas break and I’m looking forward to getting back into it in the new year.
TIER 2 U 13 ZARRAFFAS ROVERS
Tier 2: Zarraffa’s Rovers 195 defeated Mulgrave 104
Batting first, Rovers got off to a flyer, with the top order laying a solid platform. Alex M (36) and Joe (41) saw off the new ball, Neil (42) then kept the scoreboard ticking over, and Kai chimed in with 29* to ensure we posted a competitive total of 195.
With runs on the board, our opening quicks Liam and Alex I. hit their straps straight away, both striking in their first spells. When Alex M whipped off the keeping gloves and threw down the stumps for a run out, and Kai took his first wicket, Mulgrave were in all sorts going into the first drinks break. Mulgrave showed resistance but was never really in the hunt, finally bowled out for 104 in the 27 overs.
The Player Award went to Kai for an excellent all-round performance—3 wickets with the ball and 29 not out with the bat.
TIER 2 U 13 WGC ROVERS
WGC Rover 86 v Norths Omega 217.
Another tough game for the boys batting first to be 3/3 in the first few overs.
Ashton 17 from 12 balls was blazing away before been struck in the thigh pad and given LBW.
With his team reeling at 4/23 Finn 35 from 31 balls stepped up to the plate to help us limp to 86 all out.
Our tier 1 boys Shenuka and Hudson showed maturity beyond their years to keep Norths in the field for a mammoth 62 balls combined. Norths chased the total down easily with Ashton picking up 2 wickets and Aadit, isaak and Shenuka snaring a wicket each. Big thanks to the tier 1 boys for helping out.
TIER 1 U11 AGL PAINTING ROVERS GREEN
Tier 1 AGL Rovers Green 222 def Mulgrave 95
A solid end to the year with some great performances with the bat.
Josh (37), Luca (22), Kieran (22), Roly (21) and Charlie (18) with some great contributions.
Plenty of wickets shared around as well as a few good runouts. Overall, another great team effort.
Awards to Charlie, Josh and Emmett.
TIER 1 U11 ROVERS ARCHERS BODY CORPORATE
Rovers ABC 119 defeated by Barron White 124
A close match today but unfortunately we just lost too many wickets.
After losing the toss we were asked to bowl first and did a great job both with the ball and in the field restricting Barron.
Johno, Cooper L and Cooper H all going for less than 2 an over and Oscar again with a nice caught and bowled.
Our turn to bat and as we all know sometimes small targets can be tricky, we lost way too many wickets and despite our best efforts we couldn’t run them down.
Johno was rock solid and undefeated on 13, Kitty also undefeated on 12, Ben top scored with 16 and Cooper H tried his heart out to get us home.
However we fell just short this time.
Looking forward to 2026
Awards went to Johno and Kitty.
TIER 1 U11 CNW ELECTRICAL ROVERS
Tier 1. Rovers Renegades 191 v Norths 159
We sent 2025 off in style with a strong display on a mercifully cooler endeavour #2. Morgun won the toss and decided to bowl. Bronte kindly agreed to play for norths who were 1 short.
Our bowling was steady – T and Olly combined for a nice caught behind and Morgun got a wicket in his last game for rovers. Norths batted strongly though and ran up a healthy total.
When it was our turn to bat, Jackson (16) hit some great shots opening the batting. Jacob (29) and Shenuka (28) ran aggressively in the middle overs to force a few mistakes and wild throws from norths. Our middle order seized on the momentum and everyone chipped in – Xander 15, Morgun 20, Campbell 13, Damondeep 21, Oliver 11 and Hudson 14.
A great team performance from the rampaging Redbacks.
Awards went to T, Jackson and Bronte – who bowled a great spell for Norths including getting a green team mate out!!
