SENIOR RESULTS
1st Grade
Twomey Schriber Rovers v Mareeba – WON
The day started off well with Chaddy losing another toss but to our surprise we were sent in on a flat wicket. Without our Rep players this weeks focus was on batting in partnerships. This was executed well with key performances by Ryan Terry (29), Stuart Prest (62)and Bobby Brix (28). A blistering 70 off 42 balls from Harry Halpin, including 5 big 6s steered the score to 7/237. Rob Thresher applied plenty of pressure with the new ball allowing Harry to take 3/22 in his MOM performance. Dibas Bhandari also taking 3 wickets. Great performances all round from the team including Locky and Chaddy fighting out for early contenders of catch of the year. Congratulations to all as we look forward to Barron River this weekend to finish off round 1 of the 1 day competition.
2nd Grade
Red Beret Hotel Rovers v Norths Spicy Bite – WON
The mighty 2’s faced a must win game against Norths Spicey Bite. We lost the toss and it looked like a long hot afternoon in the field was ahead of us. However our openers Rob Thresher and Harry Halpin made early inroads and the wickets continued to tumble as we fielded and bowled well. Harry Halpin capped off a weekend to remember with a direct hit run-out and Kael Newcombe, away from the usual safety of the wicket-keeping gloves took a magnificent running outfield catch – the third best by a senior Rover over the weekend. To their credit Spicey Bite batted out their overs to make 9 – 156. Harry Halpin 3-16, Andy “the Wild Thing” Lamborn 2-30 and Dayne Margiotta almost snagged a hattrick on the way to 2-37.
An excellent early partnership between Ryan “Teddy” Terry (58) and Dayne Margiotta (49 not out) ensured we chased down the runs without too many nervous moments and a late lusty blow from skipper Aaron Lock may have denied Dayne his half century but it did ensure we picked up a crucial bonus point. A very satisfying win for the mighty green!
3rd Grade
FGF Development Rovers v Norths – Lost
Unlucky to lose after a very gutsy effort in hot conditions. We batted first and made 122. Stand out batsman were Pete Ferguson 28, Shane Kennedy 21 and Archie Ferguson 16no. We bowled extremely well and had Norths 5/21 but just couldn’t hang on after a good fielding effort. Archie Ferguson bowled extremely well with 2/18 and Shane Kennedy 2/20. We will bounce back – Appreciate the big efforts from Simon Taylor who continues to volunteer to umpire every week as well a fantastic team player.
JUNIOR RESULTS – TIER 1
Tier 1
Rovers Red v Barron – Lost (just) 84-83
We had a fantastic game against Barron this morning – we fielded and bowled well but not many wickets came our way. Captain Aadit was tight as always (1-6) and Reuben got 1-3. We made a great start in our innings with Morgan and Aadit both finding the boundary in the early overs. Riley made a polished 19 and Lewis chimes in with 14 but Barron pipped us at the post. Our player awards today were Riley and Lewis.
Tier 1
Rovers Gold 119 v BRCC Blue 145 – Lost
Gold travelled to the Beaches to take on a strong Barron side. We welcomed 2 debutants today with Jake and Cian joining the team. We lost the toss, and Barron elected to bat. Our bowling and fielding was a little flat today with Gold only picking up 5 wickets and extras being the top scorer. Ethan was on fire in the field, picking up 3 run outs. Kitty 1/10, Ethan 1/10 and Cian 1/13 were the pick of the bowlers. With 2 of the Barron boys with run ups longer than Shoaib Akhtar and strategically bowled, it was always going to be a tough challenge to chase down the runs needed. Ethan 15, Daniel 17 got us off to great start once again and solid knocks from Cian 12 and Finn 23 got us close, but too many wickets fell along the way. Great to see the kids stay positive throughout the game and show great sportsmanship. Players of the match for Gold went to Daniel and debutant Cian.
Tier 1
Rovers Green v Norths Blue
Norths Blue one the bat flip and elected to bowl first. A strong Norths bowling lineup had Rovers Green on the back foot early, but strong contributions from Javier (20) in his best batting performance to date, and Alex (29) saw Rovers make a competitive 7/110 runs from their 20 overs. Some early wickets kept Rovers in the game, but a late surge with the bat by Norths saw them surpass Rovers Green’s target, making 9/150 and inflicting Rovers Green’s first defeat of the season. Blake, with 2/20, and Ben 2/13, had the best bowling figures. Players of the match were Javier and Blake with special mention to Ben for his best game of the season.
JUNIOR RESULTS – TIER 2
Tier 2
Rovers Green v Rovers Red – Rovers Green Won!
Rovers Green won the toss, chose to bat and got off to an absolute flyer. Despite taking wickets regularly and a fantastic fielding effort by the redmen, Rovers Green were able to post a massive 7-198. In reply, our men in red lost early wickets and after a late fight back were eventually bowled out in the 22nd over for 64. Despite the slow start to the season, the Rovers Club can be very proud of this group of young men as they are displaying great team work, tremendous heart and determination.
Players of the match were Hayden, Sean and Mitch – Red
Players of the match were Cameron, Caleb and Eli – Green
Tier 2
Rovers Gold v Cassowary Coast – Lost

With the game of the season so far!
We won the toss and decided to bat first. With time restrictions we had 31 overs each with our boys making 7/160 with our top scorers of the day Taj on 33 and Ollie on 29 and Nate with 20. It was then our time to bowl with the first 15 overs they were on 1/87 with the boys needing some inspiration Darren and Mark put some belief in the team with the boys firing in the second half and had Atherton all out for 10/158 on the 31st over and winning by two runs and had every parent of the edge of there seat. With our best bowlers Cody with 4 wickets and Luca with 3, with every single team making a great contribution to the team. Thanks to Ben and Luca who helped out today. With Ian, Taj , Cody Luca and Nate taking out the awards for best players this week. Thanks to Paul for cooking the bacon and egg burgers for our early start, and Mark and Bernard for umpiring. 🏏😊
Super Global Services Rovers v Norths – WON
Super Global had 3 players away but we were fortified with five young guns from Tier 2 who all played there hearts out. Thanks to Brodie North, Sean Morris, Trav Hodge, Thomas Boyd and Hugh Ferguson. All players contributed to the win. Michael Roy and Hugh Ferguson both top scored with 24 runs. Fielding keeps getting better and great effort in field. Best Bowlers Archie Ferguson with 3 wickets and ninja warrior Liam Kormura with another 2 wickets.
