SENIOR RESULTS
1st Grade – Twomey Schriber Rovers v Cassowary Coast Cyclones – WON
This weekend we had the opportunity to play at Cazalys Stadium. An amazing bowling display in very hot conditions from the boys restricted CCoast to 148 on what looked to be a great batting deck. Brenton and Chaddy both picked up 2 wickets each before the destroyer Locky comes on to take the final 4 wickets. Seth (54) and Teddy (28) kicked off our run chase. Contributions from Marcus (21) and Brenton hitting 4 big 6s on his way to (34*) getting us to the target in the 24th over. We now go into the bye weekend sitting in second position, hot on the chase of top spot.
2nd Grade – Red Beret Hotel Rovers v Mulgrave Punjabi – WON
The mighty 2s took on the Mulgrave Punjabs in a rare venture to Cazaly’s. Stand in skipper Presty, remarkably playing his 200th senior cairns game, won the toss and elected to bat. Dayne Margiotta and Tommy King (30) laid a great platform of 54 for the first wicket for us to build on. A couple of quick wickets had us a little wobbly but our evergreen captain (27) combined beautifully with Dayno in the middle overs as our total continue to grow. Dayne played one of his best innings for Rovers on his way to a Herculian 84. Combined with some good late overs from the middle order we had a very competitive total of 179 on the board against our fatiguing opponents.
Not for the first time this season, young gun Tommy King then proceeded to tear through the Punjab’s top order – a wicket with the first ball of the innings was followed with 4 more as our dazed opponents had no answers to his pace and swing. Our baby-faced assassin finished with a scintillating 5-10. Sauce (2-8) and Dibas (3-8) joined the party and the game was done. To have knocked over last years champions for just 32 in just 16 overs was incredible!
3rd Grade – FGF Development Rovers v Mulgrave toad – WON
3rds Continue Good Form. Batting on Tough Wicket we made 9/123.
Archie Ferguson- Will Palmer – Justin Hodge all batting well through the middle order. This gutsy effort put us in a competitive position to defend our total. Andrew Lamborn 2 Wickets and Lucas Brierley 4 Wickets destroyed Mulgrave with some fantastic bowling while Ben Halley was super sharp in the field with a classic catch and run out . Very Proud Captain as we certainly played as a team as we toughed out a good win defending a low total. Spill. Group photo below.
JUNIOR RESULTS – TIER 3
Tier 3 – Super Global Service Rovers 4-113 def Cassowary Coast 9-104
Tier 3 Super Global lined up against Cass coast at Calazys. After some early rain the game was reduced to a 20 over game and the boys were sent in to bat. Palmi and Archie(another 50) batted solid throughout the innings and Liam contributed towards the end of the innings and we posted a competitive 113. Piggy and Michael took the new ball and started well keeping the batters honest. A few catches went down but the wickets kept coming with our ever improving leg spinner Lucas having a day out taking 5/14 in a great display of control and savage turn. The pressure was high and the game getting close when Shiv took the all important wicket of Riley Berge and Piggy bowled a tight over taking 2 wickets which proved too much for Cass Coast and they fell 9 runs short. Best players Will, Archie, Lucas and Piggy. Great win against a good opposition, moves us up the ladder into outright 3rd just trailing Halpin Partners Rovers. Both T3 teams looking to push for an all Rovers final.
Tier 3 – Halpin Partners Rovers v Atherton – Washed Out
JUNIOR RESULTS – TIER 2
Tier 2 – Rovers Green v Muddies U13 JHC
Winning the toss Rovers green went into bat.
It was a slow start with some great bowling by Port Douglas who got some early wickets and put the pressure on the batters. The 3 C’s (Cameron, Carter, Caleb) along with Ben steadied the ship and faced there 30 balls on a hard wicket.
Carter 34 off 32, Cameron 13 off 24 and Ben 18 off 30. We were able to make a total of 7/118.
After some great afternoon tea provided by Joash the boys were ready to hit the field.
Muddies had some big hitters which got them off to a flying start but our bowlers slowed them down in the last 15overs. Shout outs go to Carter 1-12 off 4 overs, Cameron 1-6 1 maiden off 4, Caleb 1-17.
In a close finish coming down to the last 5 overs Muddies were able to get over the line and take the win.
Players of the match Carter with his 34no and 1-12. Cameron 13 and 1-6 plus 2 run outs and a caught and bowled, Finn stepping up from tier 1 and being the birthday boy and Ben 18no and excellent wicket keeping for 30 overs with only 1 bye.
Good game Green machines, see you at training
Thanks to all parents that helped out.
Tier 2 – Rovers Red v BRCC Blue
Rovers Red won the toss and elected to bowl. On a very slow outfield, Barron batted out the 30 overs with the loss of only 4 wickets. Despite dropping three catches our bowling was tight enough to keep the run rate down and a target of 118 was very gettable.
Afternoon tea was a scrumptious spread with the watermelon and pineapple proving very popular. It however didn’t help our top order batting though with our side at one point limping to 4/17 after 7.1 overs. Our middle order of Henry, Mitch and Hayden were our saving grace each retiring with decent contributions. The work wasn’t done yet though and at the 20th over our boys required 45 runs to win. Oscar, Will and Tommy all contributed by rotating the strike and keeping the scoreboard ticking over. Eventually, the boys in Green hit the winning runs in the penultimate over with one wicket to spare. The win can be put down to patient batting and aggressive running between the wickets.
In a sport dominated by individuals’ stats, this match was great example of a team coming together and each player playing their part. Player of the match awards went to Tommy (bowling honours 1/8), Oscar (a crucial retirement 3 off 20) and Henry (14 off 37, fantastic running between the wickets and a great wicket keeping spell).
Big thanks to all the parents who helped out this week too. I really appreciate all of your help.
Tier 2 – Rovers Gold v Mulgrave Edmonton JHC
Tier 2 Rovers Gold hit Gold!
Big cheers to our fantastic team of Tier 2 Rovers Gold for their stellar performance!
Winning the bat flip, Rovers Gold showed their batting prowess by compiling an impressive total of 8 for 158. Nate led the charge with a solid innings that lasted a total of 50 balls, setting the tone for the team. The middle order also stepped up, with Luca, Jesse, Will, and Neil all contributing at least 20 runs each.
After a quick team huddle, it was time for Mulgrave Edmonton to face our bowlers. The Rovers boys displayed excellent control, keeping a tight grip on the game and restricting the opposition’s runs. A fantastic team effort saw six bowlers picking up wickets, along with a run-out and a stumping to add to the excitement.
Special mention goes to Lucas, who returned from his extended European getaway with outstanding figures of 2 for 2 off his 2 overs.
Well done, lads! Let’s carry this momentum into next week’s game and aim for another brilliant performance!
JUNIOR RESULTS – TIER 1
Tier 1 – Rovers Red v Norths – Washed Out
Tier 1 – Rovers Green v Mulgrave Edmonton
Tier 1 Rovers Green 206 defeated Mulgrave Edmonton 80
Rovers Green kicked off the second half of the season with a strong win over Mulgrave Edmonton. It was great to welcome three new players to the team and club – Andrew, Charlie, and Josh.
Rovers Green won the bat-flip and elected to bat first. Andrew and Charlie opened the batting and got the innings off to a good start. In an even batting performance, Javier continued his run of good form with the bat, making 33 and Toby made 20 to be the top scorers.
Rovers then bowled very well to take regular wickets and limit the scoring. Alex (4-2) and Charlie (3-1) were the pick of a consistent bowling effort. Fielding was excellent, too, with three direct-hit runouts.
The players of the match were our three new players, Andrew, Charlie and Josh, who all took at least one wicket and contributed well with the bat.
Tier 1 – Rovers Gold v Norths
