JUNIOR RESULTS – ROUND 14

Tier 1 Rovers Gold (112) v Barron River Red (125)

Today our Gold Stars ran into an experienced Barron sides that had already given us a hiding earlier in the season. We lost the flip and were sent in to bat . Cooper L and Teddy got us of to a great start with some brilliant running between the wickets.  Scoring 18 &17 and our newest member Kai along with Johno and Brianna were solid in the middle. Power hitting Isaak found the boundary numerous times to finish off the innings and give us a respectable score.

When it was our turn in the field everyone bowled tight and picked up some early wickets. If there was another coat of varnish on the stumps we would have had so many more. Cooper H, Kai, Kitty, Cooper L along with Isaak of course the standout bowlers. It was a day of near misses but a fantastic team performance.

Tier 1 Rovers Green (139) V Rovers Red (142)

On a bright sunny morning the 2 rovers teams played out a great game of tier 1 cricket that came down to the last ball!

Captains Luca and Morgun fought out the bat flip and the Redbacks were sent into bat.  An even contest ensued with wickets and boundaries coming in equal measure.  Roly (2 for) bowled fantastically for Green in his debut whilst Aadit (24) and Jacob (26) top scored for Red.

Josh (25) started the green innings with a flurry of boundaries.  Red fought back in the middle stages with each of Aadit, Ryan and Jackson claiming 2 wickets.  Ollie’s big hitting at the end of the green innings made for a grandstand finish.

Another great morning of junior cricket for all concerned.

Tier 2 Rovers Red V Atherton Black

Blue skies and scorching heat greeted us on Saturday afternoon at Endeavour Park, and unfortunately, the toss was lost, and we were promptly sent out to field.

Despite the oppressive conditions, the lads bowled well with our seamers leading the charge. Wil was back to his best 2/7, Eli continued his great run of form picking up 2/9 and up and comer Kaden jagged 2/1 including two wickets in two balls straight after the drinks break.

Efforts were rewarded when the last Atherton wicket fell in the 22nd over with a target of just 64 on the board.

Our run chase started with a woble, and at one point, our boys were 4/16, and all of a sudden, 64 looked like a mammoth total.

Some discipline batting and strong mental resolve from Cooper 7* (36), Eli 28* (27), Riley 6 (17), Zac 1 (23) and Kaden 1 (15) saved the day, and eventually, Eli, upon returning to the crease, was able to hit the winning runs in the 23rd over with one wicket to spare.

Award winners were Eli, Cooper, Zac, and Kaden.

Big thanks to all the parents who helped out with umpiring, scoring, providing morning tea, setting up and packing up tents, the list goes on and on! None of this would be possible without you all!

Tier 2 Rovers Green (6/117) V Rovers Gold (8/56)

It was an all-Rovers showdown at St Andrews as Rovers Gold faced off against Rovers Green in a spirited contest.

Rovers Gold won the toss and elected to bat, but they were soon in trouble thanks to a devastating opening spell from Joash. His devastating spell swung the ball around corners, tearing through the top order, taking 3/2 in his second over, leaving the Gold team reeling.

With their top three dismissed early, Gold dug in and fought hard to recover, eventually reaching 56 runs. Neil top-scored with 16, while Darcy showed resilience, retiring unbeaten on 8. The Green Team kept the pressure on the whole innings with contributions with the ball came from Alex I, Caleb, and Andrew, who each claimed a wicket, while Ronan wrapped up the innings in style with 2/1, taking the final two wickets.

Chasing 57 for victory, the Green machine approached their innings with patience and control, with five batters facing 20+ balls. Carter led the way with a classy 27 off 29 balls, anchoring the chase. Classy contributions from Caleb with 15 and Sam with 16 not out ensured the run chase was never in doubt. On the bowling front, Riley was the standout with two wickets, while Finn, Ned, and Rocco all chipped in with one each. Ash provided a moment of brilliance in the field with a direct-hit runout from cover.

The Superstar Award winners for the day were Darcy and Ash from Rovers Gold, while Caleb, Sam, and Ronan took home the honours for Rovers Green.

It was a fantastic match played in true Rovers spirit—well done to all the boys, and congratulations to Rovers Green on a well-earned win!

Tier 3 Halpin Partners Rovers (141) V Mareeba (7-114)

Mareeba agreed for Rovers to bat on a dew covered but sundrenched field.

A solid start by Cody 23 off 26 balls and Lucas 15 off 20 balls was followed by a magnificent Taj half century 51 off 67 balls.

After a middle order collapse with Mareeba stealing a double hat-trick, Will Holloway (on debut) settled in for an impressive 13 off 25 to help us to a final score of 141 off 29 overs.

In pursuit of 142 runs, Mareeba batted solidly with their openers starting to pressure our bowlers. Finally, a breakthrough with Cody taking out the key wicket. We then settled into a good rhythm with some tight bowling all round. Jett bowled impressively, hitting the stumps twice. We also saw Hayden, Lucas and Liam getting a wicked each, together with their new mate Will Holloway who celebrated his first tier 3 wicket –bowled!

We managed to hold Mareeba to 114 runs after 35 overs. A decisive win and some very enjoyable cricket all round.

Awards went to Taj, Will and Jett for their great contributions.

Tier 3 Super Global Rovers (69) V Mulgrave Edmonton (118)

Another tough loss for the boys. Sent in to bat, we once again struggled to score runs. Blake 14 and Lucas 12 were the only 2 batters to reach double digits. With a low total to defend, Blake 1/7 off 7 overs and Lachy 2/10 off 6 overs were on fire with the ball and had Mulgrave reeling at 3/3. Luca chipped in with 2 wickets and Tier 3 debutante Finn also picked up a double. Travis also bowled well picking up 1 mulgrave scalp. Although the boys never gave up Mulgrave mowed down our small total with ease. Big thanks to Travis and Finn for stepping up and filling in.

SENIOR RESULTS

1st Grade – Twomey Schriber Rovers (2-179) V Cassowary Coast (178)

An unprecedented dry weekend in Innisfail saw us face a team that has proven our kryptonite in recent years – cass coast.  On a surprisingly fast outfield, at 1-105 we were up against it.  Evergreen seamer Aaron Lock (2-33) jagged a crucial LBW before club coach PhelpsE (3-28) put his under utilised spin to good use as we started the task of hawling back our fast starting opponents.  Then the royal pair, the King brothers, got to work to obliterate the cass coast’s lower and middle order – Tommy finishing with 3-41 and older brother Henry chiming in with 2-21.

If a chase of 178 was meant to be a tricky one no one told Marty Costello. The unofficial mayor of Innisfail used all his local knowledge on his way to a bruising 95 off 66 balls – he narrowly missed his quest for the day – not to get a hundred but rather to hit one of his 7 sixes into the nearby Johnstone river.  The SuperCoach rounded off a good day with a slick 60 not out as we got the chocolates inside 20 overs.

A most satisfying away win in a crucial fixture for the mighty 1s.

2nd Grade – Red Beret Hotel Rovers (199) V Atherton (8-153)

Another satisfying win for the green machine in the lead up to finals.

We batted first and despite some powerful hitting from the Dayne-train margarita (28), some loose shots from the middle order saw us in trouble at 6-73.  But boom recruit Jace (42) brought the zen and skipper Sauce (43) the swagger as they combined for an excellent partnership that resurrected our innings. Taidgh played nearly in the final overs as our total swelled towards 200.

A tough chase for the tablelanders became tougher after Sauce (2-18) and Ethan both secured early wickets. Taidgh’s direct hit run out gave us some real momentum and Aaron Lock (2-17) strangled the Atherton middle order and treated all to a chainsaw not seen since Brett Lee in his heyday.

Brody North bowled a great spell on debut to ensure a win was in the bag as the visitors chase petered out without a fizz.

Another accomplished win for the mighty 2s.

3rd Grade – FGF Development Rovers (137) V Bhutanese Rovers (8-138)

FGF won the toss and decided  to bat first. It was a hot day and our boys struggled to get the runs with the Bhutanese boys bowling on par our high scorers for the day was Lucas on 30 off 24 not out and Lachie on 23 for 46 we were all out for 10/137 , with Tichan taking 4 wickets and  Bishsal taking 3 wickets. Then when the time came for the Bhutanese boys to bat they had us on our toes with there top scorers being Bishal on 28 off 56 and Denjom on 29 off 28  and Dibas 28 out of 30 with our bowlers all taking 2 wickets Archie, Anthony and Blake with the game coming down to the wire with the Bhutanese boys winning 8/138 with 7 balls to Spare.

The game was played in great spirit and sportsmanship and congratulations to the Bhutanese taking the win. Lucas being player of the day for great batting. Thanks to our tier 3 boys for helping out. We are now in a must win game next week to keep our finals hopes alive. See you all on the track on Tuesday.
