What a way to cap off the season—2nd Grade are PREMIERS!
A huge congratulations to the team for their hard-fought victory in Sunday’s Grand Final. An incredible effort to bring home the second premiership for Rovers this season, alongside our Tier 3 champions!
A massive thank you to all the volunteers who helped out in the canteen over the weekend—your efforts don’t go unnoticed, and we appreciate everything you do to support the club.
Now, it’s time to celebrate!
Let’s come together to recognise the achievements of our players, coaches, volunteer and sponsors as we wrap up a great season.
Port Douglas 7-209 v Red Beret Rovers 6-210
We lost the toss and Port leapt at the chance to bat. We had some great moments in the field but some sour moments too. Langers stood tall with 4-27. Chaddy was misery with 1-27 and Aaron grabbed 2 wickets. Still Port had amassed 209 after 40 overs – by any Cairns cricket metric we were up against it.
But there is a reason we are the called mighty 2s (admittedly self labelled).
Chaddy (43) and Presty (65) were superb in setting a platform for us. But needing 10 an over for the last 6 overs we looked in a fair bit of trouble. But nobody told Liam Devietti – he could not have picked a better time to play his best innings for rovers. His 55 not out off 32 was simply incredible as he hoisted balls over Cazaly’s substantial boundaries at will. He finished the game in the last over 6, 4 and the substantial rovers crowd went ballistic.
We have had some great moments in the 2s over the years but this was epic.
All credit must go to skipper Chris “sauce” Davies who led the team magnificently all year and never stopped believing. To all those that contributed to the win today thank you very much – it really was a great day to be green!!!
