SENIOR RESULTS
1st Grade – Twomey Schriber Rovers v Norths – Rovers 233 def Norths 109
In our final round match against our inner city rivals we won the toss on a hot day and had no hesitation in batting. After the loss of an early wicket, Seth and Phelpsy steadied the ship with a 40 run partnership. Phelpsy (73) and Marcus (73) then joined forces with a run ball 100+ run partnership to put us in front at the break. Chasing 233 we knew early wickets would be key, enter Robbie Thresher with a direct hit run out and also the key wicket of Dan Freebody. All of our bowlers kept things tight with best figures going to Marcus (4/17) and Seth (2/23). Bowling Norths out for 109 securing a double bonus point win.
2nd Grade – Red Beret Hotel Rovers v Norths – Rovers 236 def Norths 146.
On a very hot Sunday afternoon, skipper Locky won the toss and gleefully elected to bat. We lost an early wicket but Bobby Brix (70) and Liam Devietti (32) put on a wonderful partnership in the stifling heat to break the back of Norths fatiguing attack. That paved the way for a whirlwind 70 from Stuart Prest on the later overs who regularly cleared the boundary. We were bowled out in the last over with our highest 2nd grade score in many years on the board.
We started a bit sluggishly in the field but once Locky removed their dangerous opener on his way to 3-23 we were well on our way. Dibas ( 2-16) and everyone’s favourite Pom, Chris “sauce” Davies (2-18) strangled Norths’ middle order. The tail fell away without a whimper and we were able to record a comfortable victory leap-frogging Norths and return to 2nd on the ladder. The charge of the mighty 2s continues!!
3rd Grade – FGF Development Rovers v Atherton – Rovers 2-108 def Atherton 107
JUNIOR RESULTS – TIER 3
Tier 3 – Super Global Service Rovers v Norths – Rovers 188 def Norths 95
Tier 3 – Halpin Partners Rovers v Mareeba Bandits – Rovers 139 def Mareeba 112
We won the toss and decided to bat first. Being on a time limit it was set at 31 overs each, the boys made 139 with our top batters for the day with Taj 50 off 71 and Cooper with 49 off 45. Our fielding and bowling were kept tight with Mareeba all out for 112 for us to win the game. Our best bowling going to Jesse with two wickets and 6 other boys with 1 wicket each. With every single team member making a great contribution to the team. Thanks to Ben, Jesse, Brodie and Hayden for helping us out. Thanks to Jarred, Dolf, Mark and Bernard for umpiring . A massive shout out to our Coach Darren who is giving up his Saturday Mornings for our boys we really appreciate everything he does for the team. Our awards going this week to Taj, Cooper and Jesse. We welcome everyone back and are looking forward to remainder of a great cricket season.
JUNIOR RESULTS – TIER 2
Tier 2 – Rovers Green v Atherton
Green were meant to play Atherton in Tolga however our match was abandoned due to the wet grounds.
Tier 2 – Rovers Red v Rovers Gold
Rovers Red
On Australia day and in oppressive conditions, rover’s red took on rover’s gold in a local derby at endeavour Park.
Rover’s red won the bat flip and decided to take advantage of the over head cloud cover and bowl first.
The decision paid off as we bowled the gold team out in the 27th over for 88 runs.
Despite a very slow outfield the redmen were able to score the runs, then go on to reach 141 for the loss of just two wickets. Players of the game were Mitch (19* and 2/11), Hayden (10* and 2/7), Riley, who stepped up from tier 1, (9* and 2/12 off 3 overs) and finally Wil, who had a day out, not only captaining but also top scoring with 23* (30), returned bowling figures of 1/4 off three overs and taking a catch.
I’m sure all the boys are looking forward to next week’s match.
Rovers Gold
Congratulations to Rovers Red too big and too strong getting the win over Rovers Gold.
Players of the match for Rovers Gold went to Elijah and Finn. Elijah for making it through his 30 balls and ending up not out at the end of the innings and Finn for getting his first wicket in Tier 2. Well done lads. Bring on next week.
