ACTIVE PERFORMANCE PHYISOTHERAPY

Injury prevention reminder

With lots of junior and rep cricket coming up and it’s important all players, parents, and coaches be reminded of the cricket Australia bowling guidelines. These have specifically been done to prevent Lumbar bone stress injuries (back stress fractures) but are good practice for all load related injuries. Lumbar bone stress injuries are more common than many realize with up to 20- 33% of junior pace bowlers developing a lumbar bone stress injury each season. In years gone by these talented junior fast bowlers would play through undiagnosed or mismanaged injuries, leading to ongoing issues, reduced performance, or premature retirement. Management today has allowed many talented players to remain on the park or make full recoveries from their injury without ongoing issues. One of the misconceptions about bowling restrictions and guidelines is that they are all about forcing rest upon players. This is not the case. Under bowling is also a known risk factor for these injuries. Players should aim to keep a relatively consistent amount of bowing each week with a lighter week every 4 weeks and a week off bowling during the week (not during a game) every 10-12 weeks. The simple bowling rules to remember are;

Rule 1,3 & 5 for Under 17 & Under 15

  1. 1 day between bowling sessions
  2. Maximum of 3 days per week
  3. Maximum of 5 overs in a spell (training and games)

Rule 2,4 & 6 for Under 19

  1. No more than 2 days in a row
  2. Maximum of 4 days per week
  3. Maximum of 6 over spells

During tournaments and periods where games are scheduled on back-to-back days players can bowl in games however the rest of the guidelines should be strictly adhered to and a rest factored in after the completion of a tournament.

Further information on the bowling guidelines can be found here or feel free to speak with Marcus at junior training on Wednesday nights or book in an appointment at Active Performance Physiotherapy. You can contact Active Performance Physio on 4041 2340 or book an appointment through the website.

SENIOR RESULTS

1st Grade
Twomey Schriber Rovers v Norths – LOST
‘Return of the Kings’. Rovers took on Norths at GP and were sent into bat on another flat deck. Self proclaimed ‘King of the North’ Brenton Edwards returned to form with a well timed 59. He was brilliantly assisted by Marcus Berryman (43) and Bobby Brix (37). The rest of the order scratches around to get the total to 221 off the 40 overs. Norths went out to bat and Henry King found himself with a new ball, this produced season best figures of 3/23 off 8, taking some big top order scalps along the way. Chaddy, Locky and Thresh took 2 wickets each to roll Norths for 112, taking home a bonus point win. Next up we are away playing Cassowary Coast in Tully.

2nd Grade

Red Beret Hotel Rovers v Norths – Won
Rovers 3-139 (26 overs) defeated norths 7-167 (40) – weather

The mighty 2s faced another top of the table opponent in Norths on Sunday afternoon. We lost the toss and were sent into to field on a sticky afternoon. Henry King and Rob Thresher claimed early wickets to have Norths 3 for early but they developed a good partnership in the middle overs to test our resolve in the humid middle overs. Harry Halpin found us a wicket and the “Wild Thing” Andy Lamborn effected a great run out as Norths posted a respectable 167 off their 40 overs. Harry Halpin with a typically miserly 2 for 24 off 8 whilst the ever consistent Rob Thresher returned 2 for 31.We were confident we could chase that down but were in trouble early as we lost 3 wickets. Then the rain came and it was touch and go which way the game would go as the skies cleared. Our tall timber in the middle order Dayne Margiotta (40 not out) and Dutto (51 not out) complimented each other perfectly as we reached our revised target with plenty of overs to spare and plenty of capable batsman left in the shed.Another great win from the 2s who have shrugged off a slow start to develop some real momentum leading into Xmas.

3rd Grade
FGF Development Rovers v Port Douglas – Lost
Muddies batted first and made 177. Thanks to Straddy for preparing a good wicket under tough conditions. Justin Hodge – Dayne Margiotta and Dbas Bhandari bowled well. Harrison O Kane and Ben Hally were outstanding in the field. We tried our best with the bat with Jakeb Stennett smashing boundaries all over the park with 63 and Dbas Bhandari supporting him well. We had Muddies on the ropes until we poorly ran each other out 5 astonishing times. Oh my goodness!!! It was a gallant effort today men, let’s bounce back next week.

JUNIOR RESULTS – TIER 1

Tier 1
Rovers Red v BRCC Blue
Inspired by Pat Cummins, captain RT won the toss and bowled. All Redbacks bowled well with a noticeable reduction in our wides this week. Our fielding effort was excellent and we got 3 run outs whilst Reuben almost took 2 screamers. Against Barron’s pace battery our batters applied themselves well and showed plenty of courage. Best with the bat were RT (29) Chad (16) and Aadit (16). We fell a little short but it was a great effort when we were down on troops this week. A big thank you to Bronte who filled in for her brother and played her first game of hard ball cricket and did a marvellous job.

Tier 1
Rovers Gold v BRCC White
Rovers Gold 165 v Barron River 85 Win. A strong performance by Rovers today. We batted first and put on 165 runs. Finn top scored with 35 and Jake 27, Jacob 16 and Ethan 16 also piled on the runs. Some great bowling and fielding restricted the home side to 85 with Daniel getting an amazing 2/1, Finn 3/8 and Kitty 1/8. Players of the match Jake and Finn.

Tier 1Rovers Green v Norths GirlsRovers Green 130 defeated Norths Girls 123 in a close game, Rovers Green returned to the winners’ list with a hard-fought win over Norths Girls.  The girls won the bat flip and sent Rovers Green in.  Solid partnerships with good running between the wickets was followed by some latter-order hitting from Javier (28) and Alex (27).  This saw Rovers Green set a competitive total.  Rovers then bowled tightly and took 6 wickets to claim the win.  Best bowling was by Eamon with 2/11 and Blake 2/21.

JUNIOR RESULTS – TIER 2

Tier 2
Rovers Green v BRCC RedThe green machines headed to Smithfield for the top of table clash. Winning the toss we went into bat. The goal was to bat out the 30 overs and score approx 160+ and the team achieved both of these. Thomas 24(30), Ben 25no (49) and Brodie 33no (31). After 30 overs we achieved our goal of 168! Well done.  Now time to bowl, we knew we had to bowl well to defend the total as Barron have some strong batters. Stopping the boundaries and putting the pressure on in the field the boys bowled fantastic and we bowled Barron out in 26.4 over for a total of 132. Great bowling by Evan 2 for 12 off 2 overs, Travis 3 for 9 off 3.4 overs and a big shout out to Finn for making his debut in tier 2 with a 4 off his first ball and great bowling 0 for 8 off 2 overs. Great work Green team.

Tier 2Rovers Gold v Mulgrave Gordonvale JHCMulgrave won the bat flip and sent us in. The boys batted well against a quality opposition on the turf wicket that kept very low with the overnight rain.  Lucas, Will and Jesse all managed to get to double figures. It was a fight for every run and we ended up losing our 8th wicket in the 29th over on the way to a total of 96 runs. The Rovers boys bowled very well restricting scoring options for some very class batters. The bowlers to stand out were Elijah with 2/27 off 4 overs, Darcy Bettini 1/12, Jesse with 1/23 and Luca with some very tight bowling of 0/3 off 3 overs.  Stars in the field were Elijah with a direct hit run-out and Darcy taking a screamer in the outfield. Mulgrave ended up with a score of 5/154.Special thanks to Sean and Henry for being our Superstar fill-ins!

Tier 2Rovers Red v Cassowary Coast Orange After making the road trip south to beautiful Kurrimine Beach, our captain Tommy won the toss and sent the home team into bat.  A fantastic bowling performance, particularly from Eli (3/13) and Wil (2/9) and some great catching and fielding ensured the Redmen bowled them out in the 20th over for 107.With an achievable target set, our openers went about their business and at the first drinks break we were right on target at 1/32 – Sean 9 (29), Eli 11 (30) and Henry 1 (9). After the drinks break, our middle order – lead by Jett 21 (23), and supported by Cooper  7 (13), Hayden 6 (10), Oscar 2 (9), upped the run rate and by the 20th over we only required a further 20 runs to win.Mitch 12 (29) and Tommy   2 (16) did enough to see us home.Players of the match were Eli, Mitch, Jett and Tommy.

JUNIOR RESULTS – TIER 3

Tier 3
Super Global Services Rovers v BRCC – lost

Tier 3
Halpin Partners Rovers v Norths – Won
