Weekly Update 26th March

Welcome to this week’s Rovers update.

We have had a big weekend across the club, despite the rain trying to slow things down.

Tier 1 finshed their season in great form, a strong way to wrap up the season.  Both Tier 2 games got underway but unfortunately their matches were abandoned due to the rain.

Saturday saw a fantastic result with our 3rd Grade side, the Bhutanese Rovers, too strong for Mareeba to take out the Grand Final. Later that evening, the Halpin Partners CPL U 18 team also secured the premiership with a win over Mulgrave. A special mention to Ian, who delivered an absolutely outstanding 100 not out in the Grand Final a brilliant performance under pressure.Congratulations to everyone involved a great achievement for the club.

We go again this weekend with Tier 3 Super Global Services and Red Beret 2nd grade taking the field in their rescheduled Grand Finals.

A reminder that our season end presentation is happening Friday night 27th March at the Red Beret, commencing at 6pm.

Lets get around our teams, we are not finished yet. GO ROVERS!!

ARCHERS BODY CORP ROVERS

Rovers ABC 127 def Barron Yellow 110.
We saved one of our best performances for the last game .  Playing a Barron team that had only lost once all season. Captain Johno lost the bat flip and we were send in to bat on a damp outfield .

Everyone worked hard to protect their wickets and score runs against a tight & accurate bowling attack , Aaron and Cooper H got us off to a solid start, Oscar played some great cricket shots on his way to a quick fire 17, Kiani, Kitty and Johno refused to lose a wicket with Teddy and Brad finishing strong. Brad hitting his first 6 on his way to 16 and Teddy 13 to give us a competitive total.

Our turn to bowl and again everyone was on song. Kiani picking up 2/3 was outstanding.
Johno, Aaron and Teddy all grabbed 1 each. Our catching and fielding was first class securing the victory.

The end to a great season and hope to see everyone here again for the next one.
Awards went to everyone!!

AGL PAINTING ROVERS GREEN

Tier 1 AGL Rovers 129 def by Barron River 141.

The green team came agonisingly close to an undefeated season today, just falling short of the mark in their final game. The performance was still top drawer with bat and ball and all the lads should hold their heads high after a great season. Luca impressed again today with 27 off 12, along with Henry, Reuben and Luca taking a wicket each. Awards went to everyone today.

CNW ELECTRICAL ROVERS REDBACKS

Redbacks def Redfaces

The mighty Redbacks stared down another formidable opponent – cyclone Narelle.  It was too wet for Barron to brave St Andrews but not the mighty Redbacks. The question was posed to parents and older brothers “are you worthy” – and the answer was a resounding “no.”.  Damondeep and Xander set the standard with the bat early, Jackson and Ollie followed suit – inspired by Jennifer’s nightclub beats on the speaker.  The remaining Redbacks drove the point home – no one plays wet weather cricket better than the redbacks.

The response from the red faces was, if truth be told, in ept. It became clear that no parent had really worked hard on their game since the last outing. Xander collected wickets for fun. That Fred didn’t wear gumboots this time is acknowledged.

It was left to youthful Arky and Will to pick up the pieces with the willow for the red faces.  But despite their herculion efforts, they could not right a sinking ship.

There were donuts and plenty of excuses, but the Redbacks did what they did best – sealed the deal. Six was needed off the last ball for victory but a pitiful paddle from the tall one of the red faces could not get the job done.  Another hard fought win from the Redbacks.

It finished a great season – laughs, tears (mainly mine) and plenty of high-fives. A season where I hope many great friendships were solidified and a love of the game – win, lose or draw, was solidified in many young minds.

Saturday’s mornings, some soggier than others, have been an absolute delight with this band of young cricketers.

Bring on next season!!
