SENIOR RESULTS
1st Grade – Rovers Twomey Schriber 4-274 v def Mareeba 64
Rovers 1st Grade took on Mareeba this week at GP. With the game delayed due to rain we were able to get a 30 over game in under lights. Batting first our intentions were to start strong and lift the run rate at the back end of the innings. Unfortunately, we lost an early wicket but that brought Phelps to the crease to partner Seth. Seth and Andrew steadying the scoring taking us to 1/97 at the half way mark. What happened from the 16th to 30th over was an absolute pleasure to watch from the stands. Phelps eventually departed for a well made 68. Seth McGinty and Eddy then played a game of who could hit the bigger 6. Seth reached triple figures for the first time, 115* off 90 balls with 9 big sixes and Eddy hit 69 off 20 balls with 7 sixes, 1 nearly landing on the bowls club. The boys taking the total to 274 from the 30 overs. Mareeba with a mammoth total to chase failed to get going being all out for 64. Brenton taking 5 wickets along the way. Now only 2 points behind the ladder leaders Mulgrave we go into the final week with a chance to put pressure on Mulgrave for that top spot.
2nd Grade – Red Beret Rovers 9/195 v def Norths Spicy Bite 115
The mighty 2s were sent in to bat on a muggy Sunday afternoon at GP1. We were in trouble early at 3 for 30 odd but prodigal son Liam Devietti (57) batted well with the middle order as we mounted our recovery and attack. Late order slugger, skipper Aaron Lock contributed 39 as we went into the innings break with a nice total on the board.
Not for the first time this season, Tommy King rattled the stumps in the first over and we were away. Our opponents struggled to land any significant blows as the required run rate started to climb. Chris Davies (2-23) struck with the first ball after drinks and we had a stranglehold on the game. Joel Sykes teased and taunted the opposition with his left arm all sorts (3-19) and a Harry Halpin direct hit run out ensured no “Spicey Bite” would be taken out of our title aspirations this match.
Another satisfying performance from the mighty 2s as we head into the final game of the regular season in a tight tussle for 1st spot on the ladder!!
3rd Grade – FGF Development Rovers v – Mulgrave – Match Abandoned
JUNIOR RESULTS – TIER 3
Tier 3 – Super Global Service Rovers v Barron – Match Abandoned
Tier 3 – Halpin Partners Rover v Norths – Match Abandoned
JUNIOR RESULTS – TIER 2
Tier 2 – Rovers Green v BRCC Red
Heading out to Smithfield on Saturday afternoon saw us take on Barron Red. Losing the toss we were sent into Bowl on the hot, humid afternoon. Barron got off to a great start and at the 10 over mark they were 1 for 43 and the green machines were starting to get nervous.
Along came the man of the match, CARTER PETERS, ready to show us how it’s done. Taking a HAT TRICK in the 11 the over and putting Barron on the ropes. Finishing his 3 overs with outstanding bowling figures of 4 for 5 with 1 maiden and a hat trick. Well done Carter!
The green machines were able to bowl Barron all out for just 60 runs with tight bowling from everyone. Afternoon tea provided by the Ackroyd family, the boys were ready to chase it down. Great opening partnership by Thomas and Travis got us off to a good start with the North brothers coming in to get the win.
Travis 21 runs and Brodie 20. Players of the match were the Hat trick king Carter 4/5 off 3 overs and 10 no. Joash for his tight bowling and taking a great catch at square leg. Thomas getting us off the a great start with the bat and Hugh playing in an arm cast, 2 for 6 bowling and 10 runs including a 6. Great game Green, let’s get to training on Wednesday ready to tackle our next game.
Tier 2 – Rovers Red v Mulgrave Edmonton – Match Abandoned
Tier 2 – Rovers Gold v Atherton
Losing the bat flip and heading out to field first Rovers Gold put on a brilliant display in the field. Bowling tight lines and very restrictive fielding the classy Atherton batting line-up were held to 101. Elijah with figures of 1/6, Darcy 1/33, Rocco 1/8 and Luca 1/3 all had a share in the wickets and Darcy took a great sliding catch on his knees.
Unfortunately, when it came to our turn to bat, we lost too many wickets on a regular basis to be all out for 41. Special mention to Nate and Rocco both not out. Congrats to Elijah and Darcy for their awards for the game.
JUNIOR RESULTS – TIER 1
Tier 1 – Rovers Red 117 def Barron 106. Win!
Captain Morgun lost the bat flip and we were sent in to bat on a slippery pitch at Endeavour 2. Scoring was tough with the sodden outfield but as always our running between the wickets ensured the scoreboard ticked along. All batters made a contribution with Riley’s 11 out top score. We seemed to be up against it with the ball but we came home like a freight train in the later overs with a flurry of wickets to snatch a victory! Lewis’ direct hit run out was a highlight and Ronin finished with an incredible 5-5 off 2 overs. Our player awards today went to James and Ned.
Tier 1 – Rovers Green 111 lost to Norths Blue 124
Rovers won the toss and sent a strong Norths Blue lineup into bat on a damp pitch and outfield at St Andrew’s. Norths made a strong start losing only one wicket in the first 10 overs. However, Rovers Green hit back after the drinks break, taking a further 6 wickets and limiting Norths to a chaseable target. Best bowling figures went to Ben (2/7), Toby (1/3), Alex (1/8), and Andrew (1/8).
In reply, Rovers batted steadily and, at the halfway mark, were level on runs with Norths but just fell short in the end. Toby (16), Alex (9) and Blake (9) made solid contributions with the bat.
