Another big week at Rovers as we head into Round 2, with five teams taking the field again across the weekend, alongside plenty of Barrier Reef Big Bash action.
It has also been a busy week off the field. A big thank you to all of our volunteers who gave their time at Cairns on a Fork and at the Cazalys Community Sports Raffle. Your support makes a huge difference to the club and is very much appreciated.
Rovers was also proudly represented at the 10–12 Years Peninsula School Cricket Championships. Well done to our boys who took part a fantastic achievement and great to see our young Rovers representing at the next level.
We also have four Rovers boys competing in the Brisbane Century Big Bash this week. Best of luck to Tadhg McDavitt and Caleb North playing for the Magic, Brodie North representing the Rockets, and Brodie Masina playing for the Rays. We hope you all have a fantastic week of cricket!
Congratulations also to our Vice President, Mark, who was recognised for his contribution to Queensland School Sport Cricket with a five-year service medal. A wonderful acknowledgement of the time and commitment Mark has given to school cricket.
There is another huge weekend of cricket ahead, including the finals of the Barrier Reef Big Bash.

This week, the mighty twos were back in action against Cassowary Coast and ultimately proved far too strong.
Asked to bowl first on an excellent batting pitch, the Cass Coast openers rode their luck early, with some tough chances not sticking. While the opening partnership grew beyond 70, the twos stuck to the task, finally breaking the partnership thanks to a great outfield catch by Archie (who finised with 2 catches and 2 run-outs). From there we never looked back, bundling Cass Coast out for 128.
The young bowlers did the hard yards into the wind throughout the day. Ian bowling an extended spell, finishing with 2 for 32, and Watto grabbing 1 for 14.
Bowling down breeze, Chaddy picked up 2 for 11 and Locky (you cant buy experience) took 2 for 4 from 6 miserly overs.
Our reply was clinical. Dayne (briefly) joined Ian at the top but it was the young combination of Ian and Archie that took the game away. They added an 85 run partnership in quick time highlighted by classy shots from both, only broken when Archie top edged a slog sweep, falling for a well made 49.
That was the last hiccup, as Tommy King (24no) and Ian knocked off the remaining runs in the 23rd over for the loss of just 2 wickets.
Ian carried his bat, ending the day 51 not out, reaching his first senior half century. It was a knock of great maturity and well deserved after strong pre-season and good knock last week.

A great result for our Magnum Plumbing KSS Rovers 2nd Grade, defeating Atherton Sunset Ridge by 4 wickets at Loder Oval.
Atherton finished on 100, with Rovers chasing down the total at 6/104 to secure the win.

Super Global Service Rovers 3rd Grade fell short against Papare Lions in Round 2, after we batted first and posted 7/131 from 29 overs at Minniccon Gregory Oval.
Joe De Lange anchored the innings with a patient 26 from 75 balls, holding the innings together through the middle overs. Kyle Coleman then provided some important runs with a quick-fire 24 from just 22 balls, including three fours, helping us reach a competitive total.
With the ball, Kyle also picked up a wicket, while Rhys Thomas continued his strong all-round performance with 1/14 from two overs. We kept the pressure on throughout the chase, but Papare Lions eventually reached 2/133 to win.
A tough result in a game that went right down to the wire, but plenty of positives to take from the performance. Well done, boys!
Terra Novus Rovers took on Mulgrave Kerala at Walker Road, and after losing the toss we had a bowl first.
Rovers got off to a shaky start with plenty of extras getting Mulgrave into a dangerous position early. Isaac started the shift in momentum before Hughy and Rhys put the brakes on with a really tight spell each, bringing about a few wickets in the process. From there we took steady wickets before James and Raj came on and cleaned up the last five in some tidy closing spells, bowling out Mulgrave for 110 in 26 overs.
In reply Rovers got off to a strong start when a few quick wickets brought Barnesy (42) and Rocco (6*) to the crease who guided us steadily towards the target. When Barnes eventually fell the game looked tight for a few overs before the boys got it done in the 33rd over chalking up the first win for the year.
A convincing win for our HVAC Bhutanese Rovers 3rd Grade, defeating Norths Freshwater by 9 wickets.
Norths finished on 76, with Rovers cruising to victory at 1/77.

Rovers represented at the Queensland State Championships
Three Cairns Rovers juniors — Aadit, Riley and Cooper represented Peninsula at the 2026 Queensland 10–12 Years Boys Cricket State Championships in Ipswich.
Aadit had an excellent all-round carnival. He finished as Peninsula’s third-highest run scorer with 92 runs at an average of 30.67, highlighted by a superb 56 not out from 95 balls against Metropolitan West after coming to the crease with Peninsula in trouble at 4/19.
Aadit was just as valuable with the ball, taking 7 wickets at an average of 17.43, equal for the most wickets taken by a Peninsula player during the championships. He also contributed 2 catches in the field.
Cooper made an important contribution with the ball, taking 4 wickets at an outstanding average of just 7.50. He conceded only 30 runs for those four wickets, giving him the best bowling average among Peninsula’s wicket-takers shown in the tournament statistics. Cooper also contributed 19 runs with the bat at an average of 6.33.
Riley also represented Rovers proudly throughout the week, scoring 29 runs at an average of 9.67 for Peninsula.
Peninsula finished the five preliminary rounds in 10th position with one win, before ending the championships on a high. On the final day, Peninsula defeated Northern to claim the Northern Shield, providing a fitting finish to the week.
Rovers was also represented in the Peninsula management team, with Club Vice President Mark Malone serving as team manager. During the championships, Mark was recognised for his contribution to Queensland School Sport cricket with his five-year service medal.
A fantastic week of representative cricket for Aadit, Cooper, Riley and Mark, and another proud showing for Cairns Rovers Cricket Club.
