Greetings Rovers Fans!

As we navigate through the highs and lows of the season, we’re met with both triumphs on the field and challenges off it. Despite some games facing the wrath of the weather, our teams have shown resilience and determination.

With the end of the season drawing near for both Seniors and Juniors, every match becomes crucial. Let’s rally behind our players as they strive for victory.

Don’t forget to save the date for our upcoming annual presentation on Sunday, March 24th, commencing at 2 pm at the Red Beret. It promises to be an afternoon filled with celebration and recognition of our dedicated cricketers.

Together, let’s keep the Rovers spirit soaring high!

Go Rovers!

SENIOR RESULTS

1st Grade – Rovers Twomey Schriber 9-211 v Atherton 155
We had a little bit more to play for this weekend as the Muoio-Ferguson Shield was up for grabs. Losing the toss on a soft green wicket resulted in early wickets with the boys reeling at 3/23. In one of the first times this season our middle order had to dig in to build a respectable total. Eddy 67, Marcus 34, Bobby 34 & Chaddy 21 got the score to 9/211 after 40 overs. Some great partnership bowling throughout helped restrict Atherton to be all out for 155 in their run chase. Eddy (3), Marcus (3), Rob (2), Seth & Henry (1) all taking important wickets. The team now looks to build on these strong performances with only 2 games to go before finals.

2nd Grade – Rovers 3/142 (27 overs) def Atherton 9-139 (40 overs)
The mighty 2s headed to the Tablelands unsure of how much cricket we would get in under grey skies. We lost the toss and were asked to bowl. Enter Andy “the wild thing” Lamborn who intercepted a missile at point from Atherton’s best batsman to send him packing for a duck on just the 2nd ball of the day – a spectacular catch! The pitch was offering something for the bowlers who beat the bat time and time again. Atherton’s top order showed some good resolve but our tight bowling was eventually rewarded with the spoils going to Harry Halpin (2 – 11 off 8), Lambo (2 -20 off 6) and Henry king (2-30 off 8) as well as 2 run outs.

Our chase got off to a shaky start but Joel Sykes relished his promotion to opener with some impressive blows (29). 2 quick wickets saw us in a spot of bother before captain Presty (50 not out) and Liam Devietti (40 not out) combined for a majestic unbroken 90 run partnership in quick time to set up a comfortable victory as we just beat the rain home. Another great Sunday outing for the 2nds!

3rd Grade – FGF Development Rovers v Norths – Match Abandoned

JUNIOR RESULTS – TIER 3

Tier 3 – Super Global Service Rovers 1-53 (off 10 overs) def  Mulgrave 9-52 (off 20 overs)

Tier 3 – Halpin Partners Rover 120 lost to Cassowary Coast 4-123
With time restrictions we were on 30 overs each.  We won the toss and decided to bat first. Our boys made 120 after 30 overs on very wet conditions with rain and a wet field with our top batter Cody 60 off 77. It was our turn to bowl Ian taking 2 wickets but Cassowary was too strong with batting and won the game with 4/123 on the 2nd last ball of the day . Thanks to Ben, Thomas and Brodie  for helping us out. Thanks to Jarred and Mark for umpiring . A shout out to our Coach Darren. Our awards going this week to Brodie, Ian and Cody.

JUNIOR RESULTS – TIER 2

Tier 2 – Rovers Green v Mulgrave Gordonvale – Match Abandoned

Tier 2 – Rovers Red v Atherton

The Red Men Make it Four in a Row in a Last Over Nailbiter! Atherton won the toss and elected to bat, which suited our game plan perfectly. The rovers lads bowled well and never let up despite wickets being hard to come by – partly due to some substandard fielding with five catches going down. At the end of the 30 overs, Atherton had reached a modest 5/104 thanks mostly to Hayden 2/5, Tommy 0/4, Wil 0/4 and Sean 1/4 each of which bowling there three overs. Our chase got off to a rocky start, losing our first four wickets for 32 runs in just over 10 overs. Our middle order led by Mitch, 18* (30) rtno and Wil 11* (30) rtno set up a grand stand finish. In the end, Rovers required five runs off the last six balls to get over the line. Some desperate running from Oscar and Tommy left the Atherton players visibly frustrated as they knocked the runs off with one ball to spare. Players of the match were Mitch, Hayden, Tommy, Oscar and Jake.

Tier 2 – Rovers Gold v Mulgrave Yarrabah – Match Abandoned

JUNIOR RESULTS – TIER 1

Tier 1 – Rovers Red v Rovers Green
Rovers green 120 def Rovers red 86. Before the heavy rain set in later in the day, Rovers red and Rovers green were able to christen the new St Andrews field with a match played in great spirit in sticky conditions.  Rovers red batted first and found the runs hard to come by courtesy of the lush outfield – which proved to be the order of the day.  All Redbacks batters tried hard against the formidable green bowlers but a number of wickets meant we were up against it.  As always the red boys did not shirk their tact in the field with both wicket keepers – Reuben and Riley taking neat caught behinds.  Well done to Rovers green on your win.  Our awards today went to Lewis and Reuben.

Tier 1 – Rovers Gold v BRCC Red
Tier 1 Rovers Gold 137  v Baron red 115. Fielding first in slippery conditions, Gold managed to bowl and field well. Jackson 2/7 and Daniel 2/8 were the chief wicket takers. Most batters hit double digits in the run chase with Jacob top scoring on 21. Players of the match Jacob, Jackson and Daniel.
