JUNIOR RESULTS – ROUND 6

TIER 3 – Super Global Services Rovers (96)  V Atherton (204)

Rovers lost the toss and were sent in to field. With the grass on the pitch longer than a 1980’s glam metal bands hair( how good was Motley crue, poison and GnR!!!!), it seemed like a good toss to lose. The pitch however was more German autobarn like than it seemed under that long green facade. Atherton posted a mammoth 4/204. Blake 2/20 off 5 overs and Matty T aka the Mungus 1/17 off 5 overs were the best of the bowlers. Lachlan Hodge was awesome behind the stumps reducing the amount of extras scored off any wayward bowling. Whilst the boys battled hard with the bat they were up against the wall from the get-go. Pranil 19, Lachlan 16 and Blake 13 showed some fight but in the end we fell well short. So proud of the way the boys never gave up!!! Awards going to Pranil, Mungus and Blake.

TIER 3 – Halpin Partners Rovers (76) V Cassowary Coast (6-98)

After an eventful early morning drive down the Great Green Way witnessing an arrest of two people at a stolen vehicle and two other cars dumped overnight, we had a tough, hot game against Cassowary Coast at Tully.

We won the toss and elected to bat, but struggled on a tacky, uneven wicket. Only Lucas Brierley (warming up for his first First Grade game – congratulations Lucas) got amongst the runs (26 off 32) helping us to a modest 76 off 27 overs.

Knowing it was a tough wicket, after a splendid morning tea provided by Max’s family, we took a positive outlook onto the field. We were led by a wonderful performance by our captain Ian De Lange (2 wickets for 9 runs off 5 overs). With wicket contributions from Tadhg McDavitt, Liam Komura and stand-in tier two player, Caleb North, and some tight bowling from the rest, we still thought we were in for a chance with five overs to go. Some solid batting from our opponents allowed them to slowly creep past our score but we held them to a respectable 96 for 6 wickets after 34 overs.

Another tough outing, in tough conditions, but we still showed some great team spirit, pushing our cause to the end.  A special thanks to Paul Brierley for scoring and to Marty Costello and Dolf De Lange for umpiring.

Our deserving award winners this week were Ian, Lucas and Tadhg.

TIER 2 – Rovers Red (5-189) V Atherton (8-160)

The weather was a case of “rinse and repeat” as we played host to Atherton Maroon at Endeavour Park on another dry and sunny Saturday afternoon.  Atherton won the toss and sent us in to bat, which didn’t bother our boys at all given the hot and muggy conditions.

Despite the loss of a couple of early wickets, our lads kept the run rate up and, in the end, set a competitive target of 190 for the visitors to chase.

Key contributors were Trav 49 (49), Mitch 25* (21), and Tommy 25* (29).

Atherton got off to a flyer, and at the 15 over mark, must have thought the game was there’s needing just 77 runs off the last 90 balls with six wickets in hand.

Our Rovers boys kept positive and bowled patiently, waiting to pounce on any sort of mistake. Some tight bowling from Cooper 2/13, Mitch 1/12 and Wil 0/11 put the breaks on and going into the final drinks break the visitors now needed 54 from the final 10 overs with just 3 wickets left in the shed.

A superb catching display from our boys led by Wil with 3, Tommy with 2 and Oscar with 1 ensured Atherton would be leaving empty-handed, and the four points going to the home team.

Another superb team effort from the lads!  Weekly awards went to Tommy, Will, and Kaden – for taking his first ever wicket!

TIER 2 – Rovers Green (113) V Norths (98)

Tier 2 Green played host to Norths Global Hire Gold at St Andrew’s.  Winning the bat flip, Green elected to bat first in very hot conditions.  Pleasingly, the boys dug in and, for the first time in a number of weeks, batted out their allotted 30 overs to make a total of 113.  Top scorers were Sam with 26 and Carter with 18.  In the field Rovers bowled tightly and took regular wickets to restrict Norths to 98 all out.  Carter (3.3 overs 2/22) and Sam (3 overs 1/3) again led the way, and Joash and Toby chipped in with a wicket each.  Top fielding also led to a couple of runouts.  Well done to the boys on their first win for the season (clearly, they did not require their coach, manager, or one of the captains, who were all absent for the game!).  Thanks to all the parent helpers on Saturday!

TIER 2 – Rovers Gold (2-185) V Mareeba (6-166)

This week, we returned to Endeavour Park for our first home game in a while—and back into the winner’s circle!

Fielding first to give our Mareeba mates time to navigate the challenging Kuranda Range, we started strong with early wickets. However, a bout of wayward bowling allowed “Mr. Extras” to claim the second-highest score of the game. Mareeba’s middle order batted superbly, pushing their total to an impressive 6/166 off 30 overs. Standout bowlers included Ash, delivering a brilliant 2/8 from his 4 overs, and Rocco, swapping his keeping gloves for the ball after the final drinks break to grab 2 quick wickets, finishing with 2/26 off 4 overs.

After recent batting struggles, it was fantastic to see 4 out of our top 5 retire after solid contributions. The team effort shone through, with Riley steering us to victory with 3 overs to spare. Rocco (27*), Hughie (37*), Ash (28*), and Finn (25) all delivered outstanding performances with the bat.

Player awards this week went to Ash and Rocco for their all-round heroics.

Great work this week, legends! Let’s keep the momentum going and put in the hard yards on Wednesday to get ready for Atherton next weekend!

TIER 1 – Rovers Gold (137) V Mulgrave Ingenia (137) TIE

For the third week running Gold delivered us a nail biter.  After losing the flip we were sent in to bat and with Mulgrave being a couple short our crew took the opportunity to fill in and bowl  and field against our own (something some seemed to enjoy maybe a little too much), everyone performed with the bat
In fact everyone in the side ended up on double figures.Great innings from Brad with a personal best and our top run scorer with 23.

Our turn in the field. This was the best I’ve seen from us this season to date with highlight reel outfield catches and great determination shown by all to save every run possible.  Mulgrave had some power hitters and despite some excellent and accurate bowling they were closing in fast. We kept our nerve and the match ended in a hard fought tie.  Can’t wait for next week!  Award winners Cooper L, Teddy and Kitty.

TIER 1 – Rovers Green (0-134) V  Norths (0-208)
TIER 1 – Rovers Red (185) V Barron (91)

Captain Bronte won the bat flip and elected to field.  Barron found runs hard to come by as our bowling and fielding was very polished this week.  The skipper took a neat caught and bowled and each of Aadit, Morgun, Shenuka and Jacob grabbed a wicket.

When it was our turn to bat openers Ryan T (24) and Bronte (23) cracked a number of boundaries which set the tone for our innings. Jackson hit his first ever 4 and Aadit his first ever 6 on his way to a team high 34.  Unfortunately for Morgun, his throw-away comment that he would give Aadit $10 if he hit a 6 was heard by all and sundry!

Everyone made double figures in a great team batting performance.

It was very pleasing to see all redbacks prepared to lend a hand without compliant and take a turn fielding for Barron who were 1 short.  Another enjoyable morning for the ever improving Redbacks.

SENIOR RESULTS

1st Grade – Twomey Schriber Rovers (4-59) V Cassowary Coast (55)
2nd Grade – Red Beret Hotel Rovers (87) V Muddies Senior Men (120)

A youthful Rovers side headed up the Coast for our first away game of the year.  Port won the toss and batted, but Archie quickly had their prolific opener back in the sheds.  We bowed tightly on a pitch that would prove tough to bat on all day.

After drinks our spinners came to the force with Joel Sykes taking 4-26 (including 2 great outfield catches from debutant Lochlan Johnston) and super Dad Josh Chadwick taking 2-9 off 8.  They we ably supported by a good spell from Tadgh McDavitt (1-12).

Chasing 120 we thought we were every chance but we were crippled by early top order wickets.  Presty (36) threatened to pull off a reguard action but unfortunately our middle and lower order were bundled out for 87.  A tough loss having set ourselves nicely with the ball, but plenty of lessons to be learnt as the mighty 2s strive for more consistency with the willow in the coming weeks.

3rd Grade – FGF Rovers V Muddies Senior Men

Port Douglas won the toss and sent us into bat. We welcomed back Rodney and Allan to the team and also they were our high scorers of the day Allan 42 of 44 and Rodney 15 off 29 with the pitch doing all sorts of things unfortunately had us all bowled out on 6/108 .Then our turn to bowl with Taj taking both wickets making there score 2/110 for them to win the game. Although we didn’t get the win today we made them work for their score with our top fielding and our Rovers spirit as a team. We welcomed a new member to the club Tim who has just moved to Cairns and we look forward to him being part of the team.  Our Player of the day going to Allan for great batting, thanks so much for Jared for umpiring and thanks to our tier 3 boys who stepped up to help the team today and make the trip to Port Douglas, Taj, Matty and Blake.

3rd Grade – Bhutanese Rovers (104) V Mulgrave Kerala (0-105)
