SENIOR RESULTS
1st Grade – Twomey Schriber Rovers v Mulgrave – Lost
A message from Josh Chadwick (1st grade Captain)
Unfortunately our first grade side went down in a rain affected game against Mulgrave on Saturday. Mulgrave were ultimately too strong and deserving winners this year. I personally would like to thank the committee, sponsors, volunteers and players who helped us to a successful season on and off field. The team could not have got into a Grand Final without the assistance of everyone involved. We have a huge amount of talented juniors coming through the system and I can see successful campaigns in the years to come. We’ll be back even better next year.
2nd Grade – Red Beret Rovers abandoned, play Sunday 24th March 11am at GP1
3rd Grade – FGF Development Rovers 117 lost to Mulgrave Kerala 9-145
JUNIOR RESULTS – TIER 2
Tier 2 Grand Final 1 vs 2.
Rovers Green vs Cassowary Coast Teal
Rovers Green CHAMPIONS!!
Winning the bat toss we decided to mix it up for the final and selected to bowl first to settle the nerves.
It was the decision of the year!!
Our bowlers were unbelievable and did not let us down. Everyone bowled amazingly and the fielding was great with the catch of the game going to Brodie who was able to get off the ground and take an one handed screamer to get one of their top batsman out off Joash bowling. All bowling tight overs with some standout performance by Evan 1/8 off 3 overs, Joash 1/9 off 3overs and Caleb 5 overs, 1 maiden, 3 for 15 and Ben we some awesome keeping taking 2 catches and keeping for the 30 overs.
We were able to slow Cass coast down and keep them under 100 with a total of 7/93.
Water, lunch and some lollies the Green Machines were ready to take the grand final.
Trav, Thomas and Cameron got us off to a solid start before Brodie (15off 30) Carter (22 off 30) and Caleb (15 off 24) came in to get us in to a winning position. Joash, Ben and Evan came in at the end with Evan scoring the winning run in the 27over. Total 4/94.
A fantastic all round effort with all the boys doing their part for the team and ALL winning the player of the match.
Shout out to our supporters who came down to cheer on the team, all the parents and especially to Simon, Bernard, Mark, Pete and Dan who continually help umpire and score each week. It’s an all round team effort.
Congrats to the Green Machine boys, 2023/2024 Tier 2 Champions.
Tier 2 Rover Red v Port Douglas Muddies
Excited to finally get on the field for a game of cricket, the boys stuck to their game plan and bowled first.
Muddies managed 113 runs off their 30 overs. The wickets were spread around with Sean taking the bowling honours with 1/4 off 3 overs.
Our batting innings hit a few snags early, losing wickets regularly apart from Henry, who ended up being the linchpin of our innings.
Our middle and lower order showed some typical rovers fight, however, when the score reached 7/55 and 59 runs behind, we thought we were set for an early night.
Oscar, Tommy and Jake obviously had other ideas though as they put together a couple of wonderful partnerships managing to reach their retirements.
This brought the inform Henry back to the crease with just 15 runs to win.
Unfortunately, our lads fell just eight runs short – a gallant effort from our batters.
Players of the match went to Henry 29* (29), Jett 12 (18) and Sean 1/4 .
Despite today’s loss, we had an absolute stella season, and I know the coach can’t wait to do it all again next year.
Tier 2 Rovers Gold v Mareeba Bandits
Travelling to the picturesque Mareeba for the last game of the season the Bandits won the toss and elected to bat first. Mareeba got off to a solid start with their top 6 batsmen all making double figures.
Rovers Gold like they had all season hung in the contest and took wickets throughout. Luca was on a hatrick after getting 2 batters out in a row for Golden Ducks and just failed to get a hatrick with a streakish shot by the Mareeba batsman.
Rovers Gold fought back well in the second half of the innings and restricting the Bandits to a total score of 131. Stars with the ball were Elijah with 2/26 off 4 overs and Luca with 2/10 off 3 overs.
Rovers Gold boys started the second innings with a bang with the Bandits opening bowler being pommelled by Nate to the boundary 3 times in the opening over. These were easily the shots of the season for Nate who went on to score 19 off 19 balls. Luca also put on a solid 18 runs off 32 balls.
Just when it looked like the target was too much Neil opened up his shoulders and started to unleash on the bandits punishing them to every corner of the ground. The bandits were starting to get concerned and had nearly every fielder on the boundary.
Unfortunately even with Darcy Bettini’s solid 10 not out at the end it wasn’t to be as Gold finished up 17 runs short when Neil was run out for 24 on the very last ball of the innings.
The last game typified the season for Rovers Gold. Every game we went in as big underdogs, but showed tenacity, resilience and a never say die attitude. It was so good to see the comradery of the group continue to the end after a tough season.
Well done lads and I am sure a lot of you will have a very big season ahead next year with the foundation blocks already built.
JUNIOR RESULTS – TIER 1
Tier 1: Rovers redbacks 95 v Barron river 143.
The Redbacks finished our season with a spirited showing against a powerful Barron side. Captain Lewis lost the bat toss and we were sent in. The early signs of the parents picking the batting order were good as Aadit crunched some early fours. All Redbacks followed his lead and contributed well with the willow.
When it was out turn to field we got 6 wickets including a great caught and bowled from Chad. Aadit got the figures – 2 for 7.
For many of us it was our first season on cricket and while there was hot days and of course some wet days, we all improved tremendously and most importantly had lots of fun!
Tier 1 Rovers Green v Norths Girls
Rovers Green bowled first in the last game of the season. A tight bowling performance saw Norths Girls restricted to 6/99. Wicket takers were Luca (2/3), Charlie (2/13), Alex (1/19) and Josh (1/4). Toby held onto two sharp caught behind chances.
In reply, Rovers Green were always in control making 132 for the loss of only 3 wickets. Leading runs scorers were Alex (28), Toby (19), Liam (13), Andrew (13) and Josh (13).
Well done to all players on a season played with great spirit and sportsmanship. Thanks also to all the parents, special mention to Adelle and Sandy for looking after the scoring each week and Rod and Jason for sharing the umpiring duties.
Tier 1 Rovers Gold 138 v Barron white 106.
Rovers Gold finished the season on a high with a big win for birthday boy Cooper. Batting first, Finn 28 and Jacob 22 blasted the bowlers to all parts of the oval. Daniel then bowled a devastating spell to pick up 6/12 off his allotted overs to ensure the victory. With many first-timers playing this year, it was awesome to not only see them all develop as cricketers but also show good sportsmanship and have fun along the way.
