Weekly Update - 18th September

Hello everyone, and welcome to this week’s Rovers news update!

We’ve got a lot of exciting news to share in this week’s newsletter, and it’s one of our primary ways to keep our Rovers community informed about what’s happening, so please have a read.

First and foremost, we are absolutely thrilled to announce two more victories over the weekend for our T20 A side! These wins have secured our spot in the Grand Final. Stay tuned for further details regarding the date, time, and location of this highly anticipated match.

Our senior teams are still hard at work with their training sessions, and it’s fantastic to see everyone putting in the effort to improve their game.  We know a lot of families are away for the school holidays but for those who are here, Simon North will be down at the nets Wednesday for an optional juniors training session starting from 4:30pm.  For those of you looking for training schedules, you can find the details below.

A friendly reminder that Jake from Hurtlocker Fitness will be taking a break this week due to school holidays and will return on Wednesday, September 27th. Join us at EP at 4:45 pm to get in a great workout for just $10 per person. Everyone is welcome to attend, including parents of our junior players.

ROVER FITNESS SESSIONS – BY JAKE FROM HURTLOCKER FITNESS

Please come and join in with other parents – everyone is welcome

Day: Wednesdays (while your kids are at training)
Time: 4:45 for a 5:00pm Start
Location: Endeavour Park
Cost: $10 payable to a Rovers committee member

A friendly reminder that Jake from Hurtlocker Fitness will skip this week due to school holidays and will be back for Wednesday 27th September, please come and join in at EP at 4:45 pm. It’s just $10 per person, and everyone is welcome to attend and get fit with us including parents of our junior players.  See you out there!

CFN – KEY SEASON INFORMATION

Some key information from CFN in regards to the upcoming season;

Regular Grade Season

  • All grade draws are now live in mycricket as a draft.
    • Round 1 for 1st grade is already official and won’t change without F&G approval.
  • Draws will go official Wednesday 20th September with all changes after this date having to go via the F&G.

Juniors

  • T1, T2 and T3
    • Now a CFN organised competition
    • CFN will do the draws (Including for T1 for each hub)
    • Season for all juniors will start October 7th.
      • Last round games this season will be December 9th.
      • The returning date for the season in 2024 will be January 27th2023.
  • CFN working with QC to provide more coaching assistance to ensure all clubs are playing the formats correctly to allow for consistency in player improvement across our region.
  • T1 Competitions
    • T1 still run as a hub setup with each area having their own hub the same as what has happened in the past
      • Clubs are still responsible to run their own hubs
    • Waiting for finalisation of team numbers but each hub draw will go live ASAP
      • All T1 matches will be played on a Saturday morning
    • Player who are U11 must play this competition before playing T2 or higher (Special circumstance requests can be sent to development committee)
    • Possibility of teams being able to nominate for a carnival weekend to play other teams from other hub – More information in due course and may not happen this season.
  • T2 Competitions
    • Changing this season to a regional competition with all teams in region playing in one competition
      • Draws will be designed to limit travel of Cairns teams out of Cairns to a maximum of twice a season.
      • Draw will be designed to limit travel for out-of-town regions to be as limited as possible.
    • Waiting for finalisation of team numbers but draw will go live ASAP
      • All T2 matches will be played on a Saturday afternoon
      • Draw will only be completed for now up until Christmas with the remaining after Christmas draw to be completed in November
    • Player who are U13 must play this competition before playing T3 or higher (Special circumstance requests can be sent to development committee)
  • T3 Competitions
    • Draw is live as a draft in mycricket (Same as the Seniors in it will go official on 20th September)
    • All T3 matches will be played on a Saturday morning
    • Player who are U15 must play this competition before playing grade (Special circumstance requests can be sent to development committee)

Ladies

  • Ladies A-Grade
    • 10-match series between the Mulgrave and Norths to be played for this year’s championship
      • 1x 35/35 over game (4 points in championship)
      • 4x 30/30 over game (3 points in championship)
      • 5x T20 games (2 points in championship)
    • Team won’t play anymore then 2 games in a row without a break to avoid constantly playing each other week after week.
    • Season will start with a Friday night T20 match on 6th October
      • Ful draw will be released in coming days
    • Other exhibition matches may be organised to be played in between then regular North v Mulgrave matches.
  • Ladies Development Competition
    • Qld Cricket along with CFN are working on this now it had been approved with more information to come out in due course.
  • CFN Girls scholarship
    • CFN will send 3 female players around the ages of 14 – 16 down to Brisbane to have an experience with a female club as part of a new fully funded scholarship we will look to continue for many years.
    • More information’s such as name of scholarship, rules of who qualifies, itinerary and how it’ll work will be released in coming weeks.
  • Official Ladies Sub-committee
    • Sub-committee to be forms with a minimum of 1 representative from every club and a maximum of 2 from every club
      • Cassowary coast clubs will have a maximum of 1 player from each of there three clubs (3 total for the Cassowary Coast region)
    • Each club will only have one voting right on the sub-committee with the three Cassowary Coast clubs only having 1 voting right on behalf of Cassowary Coast.
      • Can all clubs who haven’t nominated someone for the ladies committee yet please send their representatives to admin@crcketfarnorth.com.au
  • Open team nomination

CFN REPRESENTATIVE AND TRAINING INFORMATION

Ladies Open 

  • Excitingly, our first-ever official CFN Ladies open team is going away to play Townsville this season in Townsville on the same weekend as our Open and Development men’s teams.
  • Nominations are open but close on Tuesday 19th September. Nomination Link: Open Ladies Nomination Form

Male Open, Development and U18

  • Teams are picked by selectors from regular season matches. No trials or nominations are required for these teams.
  • Coaches will contact players directly regarding training.

U16 Boys – Team trial date

  • Sunday 8th October – Walker Road, 8am to 2pm

U15 Boys – Team selected – Training Dates

  • Sunday 1st, 8th and 15th October – Venue and Time TBC directly to player

U14 Boys – Team trial date

  • Trial Day 1 – Sunday 8th October – 8am to 12pm – Borzi Park – 30 over game
  • Trial Day 2 – Sunday 15th October – 8am to 11am – Borzi Park – Net session

U13 Boys – Team trial date

  • Sunday 8th October – 10am to 4pm – Endeavour Park Turf Wicket, Cairns,

U12 Boys – Team trial date

  • Sunday 15th October –  9am to 4pm – Endeavour Park, Cairns. Synthetic wickets

U13 & U15 Girls – Team trial date

  • Sunday 15th October 10am to 4pm – Walker Road, Edmonton

T20 EXHIBITION MATCH

Attention FNQ Cricket Community,
