Hello Rovers Community,
What a cracking week for our juniors — 8 out of 8 teams came away with wins! Huge congratulations to all our players, coaches and families. It’s great to see all the hard work paying off across every age group.
We also had a fantastic turnout at Griffiths Park on Sunday to cheer on our 1st and 2nd Grade sides. While the results didn’t fall our way this time, there were plenty of learning moments and we know the boys will take that into next week. Thanks to everyone who came down in their green to support, it really does make a difference.
A special shout-out to Brenton Edwards — The King of the North — who is off this week to represent Australia at the 2025 IMC T20 World Cup. What an incredible achievement. All the best from everyone at Rovers we are right behind you!
Plenty more cricket ahead, so let’s keep the momentum rolling!
TWOMEY SCHRIBER PROPERTY GROUP 1ST GRADE
1st Grade: Rovers 6/154 def. by Norths 5/158
After winning the toss we chose to bat on what proved to be a tricky deck at times. Dayne got us going with a solid 24 off 37, before Berry continued the momentum with a sharp 37 off 38. Kael slowly orchestrated 63 and we posted 154.
Unfortunately, Norths came out firing and capitalised on any loose balls. With them taking control of the chase early on. After drinks we tightened the screws, hitting our lines and lengths much better. Ruben and Henry both claimed two wickets each, whilst ‘Juice’ bowled tight (1/7 off 4).
In the end, it wasn’t the result we were after. Too many dot balls in our batting innings and a lack of consistency early with the ball proved costly. But there were strong signs of character and plenty to build on.
We move onward and upward into next week’s challenge up the hill against Mareeba. Good luck to Marcus and Tommy, who will be representing NQ next weekend at GP, along with Eddy, who is making the long trip to Karachi for the Aussie Veterans. We know you’ll all do the club proud and we’re all behind you guys.
RED BERET 2ND GRADE
Barron won by 63 runs.
FGF DEVELOPMENTS 3RD GRADE
Rovers 106 tied with Mulgrave 106
The FGF Developments Rovers 3rd Grade boys played out one of the rarest results in cricket a tie in an entertaining and hard-fought match at Turf Oval 2. The skipper, Justin Hodge, won the toss and chose to bat on what looked to be a steady surface early in the day.
Dayne Margiotta continued his strong run of form with a classy 43 from 40 balls, including seven boundaries. His consistency at the top has become a huge asset, giving Rovers early momentum and scoreboard pressure.
Skipper Justin Hodge played an important supporting hand, grinding out 16 off 36 balls. His patient approach helped settle the innings and ensure that early wickets didn’t tumble in clusters. Justin’s partnership with Dayne was crucial in establishing the platform for the rest of the innings.
Rhys Thomas, in his final game before jetting off on his European adventure, contributed a composed 12 (24). He played smart, low-risk cricket and kept the scoreboard ticking during a period where Rovers needed someone to hold the middle overs together.
The bowlers came out firing, determined to defend the modest total. Leading the way was Rhys Thomas, finishing his season in style with a brilliant 3/12 from 4.5 overs. After weeks of beating the bat without reward, he finally had some luck fall his way. His spell was full of energy, accuracy and late movement, and his three wickets turned the match on its head. A fantastic farewell performance before he heads off overseas — safe travels, mate, and enjoy Europe.
Equally impressive was Chris Davies, who bowled a superb 3/18 from 7 overs. He controlled the tempo beautifully, kept pressure on from his end, and made key breakthroughs at crucial moments. His discipline and accuracy were a major part of why Mulgrave never looked comfortable in the chase.
Agiapal produced another eye-catching display with the ball, collecting 3/11 from 5 overs. Aggy’s ability to challenge both edges and force mistakes continues to be a defining feature of his cricket
Jack Gray also played a valuable role, delivering 3 overs for just 7 runs, including a maiden. His tight line would have made any pilot proud — smooth on approach, perfect line on landing, and absolutely no turbulence. Jack’s control helped choke off scoring opportunities and build pressure during the middle overs.
Brodie Masina started strongly with 4 overs, 2 maidens, 0/15, keeping things tight upfront. Dayne Margiotta (4 overs, 0/11) and Joe De Lange (3 overs, 0/17) worked hard to restrict the flow of runs, while William Meaney (2 overs, 1/13) chipped in with a key wicket at an important moment.
THE RESULT – A RARE TIE – Mulgrave fought back late and, in a tense finish, the scores were locked at 106–106, ending the contest in a dramatic tie. It’s not the result the team hoped for, but the boys can take pride in the heart, discipline and character they showed throughout the match.
FAREWELLS & THANK YOUS
A special thank you to Sauce for filling in — outstanding support and a big help to the team.
To Rhys: congratulations on a brilliant final match and all the best for your European travels. The team will miss your energy, consistency and banter.
3RD GRADE BHUTANESE ROVERS
The Bhutanese Rovers claimed their third win of the year with a dominant and composed performance, defeating Norths by 8 wickets at Griffith Park 1. It was one of the most complete displays from the group this season including disciplined bowling, sharp fielding, and a mature run chase capped off a well-deserved victory.
Rovers set the tone early with a disciplined and relentless bowling display that kept Norths pinned down throughout the innings. Tilchan Monger delivered one of the spells of the season, taking 3/11 from 7 overs at a miserly 1.57 economy rate, consistently beating the bat and removing key top-order players. Krishna Rai provided excellent support with 3/25, striking at important moments to keep Norths under pressure.
Bishal Tamang continued his reliable season with 2/16 from 7 overs, maintaining tight lines that forced mistakes, while Saroj Pradhan produced a superbly controlled spell of 1/7 off 5.3 overs to close out the innings. Dibas Bhandari and Madan Monger each contributed valuable overs to maintain the squeeze.
The bowlers worked superbly as a group, never allowing Norths to build momentum. Norths were eventually bowled out for 98, with every Rovers bowler playing their part in a disciplined team effort.
The chase was handled with maturity and composure from start to finish. Purna Monger anchored the innings with a patient 28 from 60 balls*, absorbing early pressure before guiding the team deep into the chase. Bishal Tamang injected energy at the right time, striking 31 off 29 balls with five boundaries to shift the game decisively in Rovers’ favour.
Dibas Bhandari opened with a brisk 13 off 13, helping set the early platform, while skipper Sanjay Rai guided the innings home with a controlled 15 from 23 balls*, ensuring there were no late surprises.
Rovers finished comfortably at 2/100, sealing an excellent win with wickets in hand and plenty of overs left.
This victory showcased everything the Bhutanese Rovers have been working toward effort, teamwork, confidence, and belief. With consistent contributions across the board, this third win of the season highlights the progress the team has made and the strong foundation being built for the future.
HALPIN PARTNERS COLTS (CPL)
Halpin Partners Rovers CPL Colts (1-90) beat Atherton (8-86)
A depleted Atherton side with only 9 players, due to illness and first-grade call ups, came down from the hills to take us on at Endeavour Park 1.
Atherton won the toss and elected to bat. With some wonderful tight bowling from our opening quicks, Blake Watson (4 overs 7 runs for 1 wicket) and Xavier Curtin (5.5 overs with 15 runs and 2 wickets) limited the scoring opportunities for Atherton on a dampish wicket with a very slow outfield. The good bowling continued with Tadhg Mcdavitt and Ian De Lange, keeping Atherton to less than 4 runs an over during their spells. Then came on the two Brodies! Brodie North bowled a very tight 5 overs for 6 runs and 1 wicket (econ 1.20) and Brodie Masina 4 overs 7 runs for 2 wickets (econ 1.75) which included an entertaining full stretch catch from Cody Peters in slips. Not to be left out of the action, Shivy Pandy then came on with a fine spell of 3 overs for only 5 runs (econ 1.66).We eventually took the eight available wickets for 86 runs. Throughout the innings our bowlers were supported by some solid fielding with no dropped catches.
Our openers also struggled to get runs in the early overs and after a fall of the first wicket in the eighth over, Ian de Lange was joined by Archie Ferguson. Together they played a mature partnership with Archie hitting the winning runs in the 19th over. Ian carried his bat scoring 27 off 48 balls, and Archie Ferguson batted an impressive 39 off 39.
Another good win against Atherton, but we look forward to seeing them at full strength at our next meeting.
Thanks to Sanet and Clare for scoring, to our umpires for their hard work in the tough conditions and thanks to Jill Watson for afternoon tea, especially the Sweet & Salty popcorn….a big winner!
Our biggest thanks go to Simon and Dolf for their continued hard work with Rovers Colts who are starting to meld into a tight unit with lots of promise.
Award winners were Archie, Shivy, Will “we miss you heaps”Palmer for his never-ending support,Brodie Masina and Xavier.
TIER 3 U18 SUPER GLOBAL SERVICES ROVERS
Super Global Services Rovers 4/181 defeated Mulgrave 6/116
If last week was a good win, this one was a cricketing masterclass, a batting display so dominant that Mulgrave’s fielders are probably still chasing leather somewhere near Mission Beach.
After losing the toss and being sent in at Mulgrave, Thomas and Rocco walked out with quiet confidence (and, judging by what followed, jet engines in their bats). What happened next was pure poetry in motion. The pair put on a mammoth 146-run opening stand at a cracking rate of 5.48 runs per over, both reaching their first-ever fifties within a couple of balls of each other. Thomas compiled a stylish 58, while Rocco’s 55 was full of elegant stroke play.
Then came Hughie, who must’ve been late for something, because he unleashed an absolute fireworks display – blasting 22 not out from just 9 balls, sending deliveries to all corners of FNQ. The rest of the lads played selfless cameos in the pursuit of quick runs as the Rovers stormed to an enormous 4/181 off 31 overs – a batting performance for the ages.
Mulgrave’s bowlers could barely finish their overs as balls disappeared to every postcode in the region. By the time we were done, the pitch was scorched, the scorebook was full, and the opposition looked like they’d been through a cardio session they didn’t sign up for.
When it was our turn to bowl, the lads backed up the batting brilliance with tight, disciplined bowling and sharp fielding. Though we couldn’t quite bowl them all out, Mulgrave were never in the hunt. Every bowler kept it tight: Evan (1/6), Lucas (1/11), Bikram (2/4), Neil (1/6), and Thomas (1/3) all kept things locked down like Fort Knox.
The fielding was crisp, the energy high, and the teamwork outstanding.
It was a dominant win from start to finish – confident, composed, and full of Rovers spirit. Players of the match went to Thomas and Rocco for their opening partnership for the ages, and to our legendary super sub Neil!
Huge thanks to our scorer Cass and our umpires Pete and Peter for keeping things running smoothly.
Next week, the Rovers hit the road again for a trip to the lush fields of Innisfail – bring your sunnies, your sunscreen, and your A-game, because the Super Global Services train is well and truly rolling!
TIER 3 U18 FNQ NATURE TOURS ROVERS
This week saw our Nature Tours side travel to Innisfail to take on ladder leaders Cassowary Coast. The home side won the toss and elected to bat, a decision that came back to haunt them as our strong bowling attack went to work on the top order.
Tommy and Kaden both bowled tightly and eventually got their rewards with both of them picking up their first wickets of the season.
At 2/18 we brought the ever reliable Hayden and Caleb on to bowl and the next six overs went for just 11 runs while picking up three wickets including the prize scalp of the opposition captain.
At this point the hosts were reeling at 5/28, meanwhile our bowlers kept coming at them with Wil 1/4, Jack 2/8, Jett 1/3 and Carter 1/2 all getting amongst the wickets.
As well as bowling well, it was refreshing to see nine of our wickets taken through catches and seven different fielders taking them. A fantastic improvement on past weeks.
Despite a modest target of 78 after the 11th over we found ourselves at 2/31 and our skipper Caleb being carried off with a knee injury he picked up during the fielding innings.
From this point the in-form Pranil 29* (50) took control of the match seeing us home and with support from Cooper 9* (58) eventually winning the game with eight wickets and eight overs to spare.
Players of the match were Tommy and Kaden for opening the bowling well and setting the tone for the match.
TIER 2 U 13 ZARRAFFAS ROVERS
Zarraffa’s Rovers 4/324 def. Mareeba 44
The Zarraffa’s boys enjoyed an absolute day out at Endeavour 2, dominating an inexperienced Mareeba outfit from the first ball. After losing the toss and being sent in, openers Joe (50* retired) and Toby (50* retired) got the innings off to a flyer, cruising to 0/110 at the first drinks break and laying a strong platform.
Kai (33) kept the scoreboard ticking over, while Neil (53*) put on a quick-fire 50. With handy cameos right down the order, the Rovers posted an imposing 4/324, leaving Mareeba a tough task.
The bowlers then picked up exactly where the batters left off. Wickets fell at regular intervals as Mareeba were rolled for just 44. Liam (2/5) and Neil (2/5) led the charge with the ball.
A special shout-out to Roland, who marked his Tier 2 debut in style, snagging his first wicket and finishing with impressive figures of 1/3.
TIER 2 U 13 WGC ROVERS
WGC Rovers 3/212 v Barron River 121.
Isaak won the toss and elected to bat on a very brown, Evergreen Oval. It was once again the Ashton show with him racking up another fifty to finish 62 not out 29 balls. Charlie 37 not out from 34 balls, Isaak 24, Riley 18 and Jacob all contributed with runs to post a very competitive 212 from their 30 overs. Bowling on a pitch as narrow as the Smithfield pitch(big call I know) the boys conceded very few extras. Dodging hoon burnouts and footy posts in the outfield, Isaak picked up two run-outs and Aadit one. Jacob 2/16, Finn 1/13, Charlie 1/6 all chimed in with wickets to have the opposition all out for 121.
Players of the match went to Ryan, Riley, Jacob.
TIER 1 U11 AGL PAINTING ROVERS GREEN
AGL Rovers Green 174 def Norths 153.
A great batting effort today with runs from Roly, Josh, Charlie Luca and Kieran. Bowling wasn’t up to our usual standard, however wickets from Roly, Hendrix and Kieran and a few run outs we did enough to secure the win. Awards to Luca and Emmett.
TIER 1 U11 ROVERS ARCHERS BODY CORPORATE
Rovers ABC 184 Def Mulgrave Red 140
We lost the toss and were sent into bat . Brad and Oscar had decided it was too hot to run much and wasted little time and regularly finding the boundary . Brad ending up with 22 of 18 including 5 fours . The middle order was strong and the innings brought home well by Cooper L and Teddy.
Our turn to bowl and although we had an imposing score on the board Mulgrave came at us hard.
It was some tight bowling and excellent fielding that kept us in front. Ben’s wicket keeping was next level. Both Cooper L and Teddy picked up 3 run outs, Cooper L also collected 3 catches. Kitty was impossible to hit, Nothing was getting past Brianna or Oscar
The entire team outstanding in the field securing a very satisfying victory.
Awards went to Cooper L, Kitty and Ben.
TIER 1 U11 CNW ELECTRICAL ROVERS
Another tight game at Endeavour 3 saw the Renegades come out on top on Saturday morning. Captain Shenuka won the toss and elected to bat. Morgun immediately repaid his captain’s faith with a towering 6 in the first over on his way to a stylish 23.
Shenuka (22) and Jacob (36) then ran norths ragged with some eye-dropping singles and double- ups. Xander (15) and Damondeep (20) brought it home in the final overs as we set a nice total.
When it was our turn to bowl we stuck to our line and lengths well all innings but found wickets hard to come by. Enter Damondeep who took 2 wickets in 2 balls to ultimately swing the game in our favour.
Another fun and successful morning for the rampaging Rovers Renegades.
