2ND GRADE
Red Beret Rovers 6-125 def Mulgrave 77.
The 2 time defending premiers opened their title defence with a comprehensive victory against the toads.
We were sent in on a spicy deck and the top order toiled hard before evergreen allrounder Aaron Lock (46) and Archie (25) combined for what would prove to be a match defining partnership.
Our 125 off 36 overs was a lot better than it looked on paper and a miserly opening spell from Ian De Lange (1-10 off 6 set the tone). Amazingly Ian was one of 38 De Lange’s playing for rovers on the day. The skipper kept it tight and Brodie North so enjoyed his first 2nd grade wicket he decided to take a bag (4-27). Aaron Lock capped off a great day with 3-15 and Reuben De Lange backed up a superb day in the field with 2-1 to rout Mulgrave’s lower order.
There was little rust on show as the mighty green put in a very polished performance.
