SENIOR RESULTS
1st Grade
Twomey Schriber Rovers v BRCC – WON
Rovers 1st Grade took on Barron River as our Club Coach Phelpsy made his first return to his old club. Losing the toss on a flat deck and quick outfield we were sent in to bowl. The bowling group worked extremely hard on being consistent with their lines and lengths and it paid off as we held Barron to 163. Brenton Edwards returned with a well constructed 4 wickets. Our young bowlers learning the ropes on some flat decks should set us up to be rewarded post Christmas. Seth McGinty (43) and Ryan Terry (42) set up our run chase which was finished off by Marcus Berryman (41*) and Andrew Phelps (28*). Earning us a bonus point win with only 2 wickets down. We head into round 2 with a top of the table clash against Mulgrave this weekend.
2nd Grade
Red Beret Hotel Rovers v BRCC – WON
Rovers 9-215 v Barron 116. We travelled to the beaches for a critical game for the mighty 2s. We won the toss and elected to bat but some early wickets saw us in a spot of bother at 3-40. A typically polished 45 from Presty got us going and middle order sluggers Dutto (53) and Aaron (49) set us up for a late charge. Tommy King (23) and new recruit Hodgey (16 not out) ensured we had some momentum heading into the innings break.
215 on a lightning outfield was no certainty but a screamer of a catch from Shane Kennedy in the first over and a gem of a run out from Dayne Margiotta shortly after had the green machine up and about. A typically miserly 2-9 from Rob “the metronome” Thresher and 2-9 from whole-heatered skipper Aaron Lock – battling crippling man flu – ensured the points were all green. Hodgey chimed in with 2-16 and Tommy King 2-25 to round out a comprehensive win and an excellent Sunday afternoon outing from the 2s.
3rd Grade
FGF Development Rovers v Atherton Fresh St Market IGA – LOST
3rd Grade v Atherton
We travelled up the hill to loader park, lost the toss and bowled. The wind was howling and the ball was moving on the crumbling Loader Park wicket. Our bowlers had a real crack with every bowler getting amongst the wickets, with debutant Justin Hodge getting 2-20 off 6, taking 2 catches and throwing himself around the field like a 20 year old. Special mention to Lachie Hodge who fielded really well for us taking a cracking catch, along with Lambos outstanding one hander. We fielded really well and didn’t drop a catch. We restricted Atherton to be all out for 135, which on that lightning outfield was very gettable.
With us being 1 batsmen short we started with a simple plan and just couldn’t execute it with a run out and Stratty being retired hurt and some poor shot selection we where soon bowled out at 8/70.
Overall a very disappointing end to game that got away.
JUNIOR RESULTS – TIER 1
Tier 1
Rovers Red v 7 Blue Norths
Rovers redbacks (90) lost to norths (175). We faced an experienced and strong norths team who sent us in to bat. Everyone tried hard against some tight and fast bowling. We found the runs a little hard to come by but Lewis (11) and Riley (23) gave us some late momentum. We put in a determined effort with the ball and in the field and took 4 wickets with Lewis taking a neat caught behind and Chad beaming after snaring a great caught and bowled. Riley got 2 for 21. The redbacks tried hard all day against a strong opponent. Our team awards today were for Morgun and Chad.
Tier 1
Rovers Gold 119 v 7 Girls Norths
Tier 1 Rovers Gold v North’s Girls win. Rovers won the toss and elected to field. The North’s girls batted very well scoring 97 runs. Ethan 34, Jacob 33, Finn 30 and Jake 29 the best batters. Highlight of the day was the friendly banter between the two teams. Players of the match Jake and Jackaon.
Tier 1
Rovers Green v BRCC Red
Rovers Green 130 defeated Barron River Red 111 Alex captained this week, won the bat flip, and sent Barron Red into bat. Rovers Green bowled tightly, restricting the runs, and taking 4 wickets. Highlights included a caught behind taken by Javier and a caught and bowled taken by Toby. Wicket takers were Toby (2/17), Zac (1/17) and Alex (1/12). Openers Eamon and Liam saw off some fast opening bowling before the Rovers Green batters relaxed into their work to chase the runs down. Alex (24), Javier (22), Toby (22) and Zac (20) were the top scorers.
Well done to the players of the match Ben, Javier, and Toby.

Tier 2
Rovers Green v Mulgrave Edmonton
Rovers Tier 2 Green saw us take on Mulgrave Edmonton at Endeavour Park. Tier 2
Rovers Gold v Muddies U13 JHC
Rovers tier 2 Gold took on Port Douglas on Saturday. Coach set some goals at the start of the match, Bat 30overs – tick, have some retirements – tick and score more than 120runs – tick. Winning the toss we batted first and put on a good total of 131 after our 30overs with Lucas top scoring with 56no and Darcy 12 off 25 balls, staying in at the end to help Lucas get his 50 and bat out the overs.
With the runs on the board, we had to bowl and field well. Jessie kept us in the game with 2/19 and Darcy bowling well 1/10 off 2 overs.
Unfortunately we went down in a close finish but well done to the team for achieving the goals for the match.
Players of the match are Lucas, Darcy and Jessie.
Tier 2
Rovers Red v Mulgrave Gordonvale
The Redmen headed out to the turf at Mulgrave for an early 8am encounter. Mulgrave won the toss and elected to bat. This proved to be a good decision as they amassed 226 in their 30 overs despite a three wicket hall to Wil (3/18) – the most our team has had to chase to date.
In reply the men in Green put on a fantastic batting performance of their own with our top four – Sean 6 (31), Eli 9 (12), Cooper 8 (22), Jett 21 (28) seeing off the opening ten overs with the loss of only one wicket. The momentum continued after the drinks break with more great partnerships including Oscar 5 (13), Hayden 24 (20), Mitch 11 (17), Henry 10 (22) and Tommy 10* (15).
Ultimately, Rovers fell short with 132 runs but can hold their heads high, having scored their highest innings total and batting out the full 30 overs for the first time this season.
Onwards and upwards!
Players of the match were Wil, Oscar and Tommy.
