TWOMEY SCHRIBER PROPERTY GROUP 1ST GRADE
Rovers 9-166 def. by Barron 9-167
The 1s opened their season with a nail-biter against Barron, falling just short in a game that could’ve gone either way.
Winning the toss and batting first, we were steadied by Chaddy and Berry (who top scored with 55 off 70) after a few early jitters, before some late fireworks from Sykesy, which lifted us to a competitive 166. A few coach-killing runouts and rash shots stopped us from really kicking on, but it felt defendable at the break.
Barron got off to a flyer before umpire Skinner’s bowling change brought on skipper ‘Juice’ — battling injury but still sending down four maidens on the trot and breaking the stand with a textbook nick. Debutant Ruben De Lange then showed exactly why he earned his spot, claiming the prized wicket of Tim Ward and finishing with 3/31 off 8 in a classy spell.
Despite wickets falling regularly, Barron’s tail batted smartly and held their nerve through some late close calls, sneaking home in a thriller.
Thank you to Sanet and Will for both scoring along with John for setting up the Frogbox and manning the canteen, very much appreciated.
Plenty of positives to build on and a few areas to tidy up — the boys will regroup and be ready to bounce back next week against Mulgrave.
RED BERET 2ND GRADE
Rovers (133-2) defeated Atherton (130) by 8 wickets
Another unsuccessful flick saw us take to the field first. Atherton started strongly, but a sharp direct hit against the run of play shifted the momentum our way. Brodie (4/20) & Watto (2/8) bowled superbly through the middle, tightening the screws and restricting the Red Footers to a modest 130.
In reply, Dayne (25) and Presty (40) got us off to a flyer with a commanding opening stand. Presty & Devs (35*) contributions looked classy, while Archie showed that age is just a number, finishing confidently on 28* to guide us home in the 22nd over.
It was fantastic to see so many Rovers players/ ex players as well as parents and supporters, enjoying each other’s company watching on.
Great stuff team. Let’s train hard this week and get ready for a big one against the Punjabis next week!
FGF DEVELOPMENTS 3RD GRADE
Rovers 93 lost to Port Douglas 3-95.
We travelled up the coast to take on the formidable muddies outfit. Our batting innings never really got any serious momentum as we lost wickets at regular intervals. Joe contributed a composed 17 and was last man out. To make matters worse our inspirational captain Hodgey was taken out by a sniper on the hill as his calf exploded (or imploded?) or both(?) in our last wicket stand.
We tried to lift for our stricken captain in the field (who suspiciously seemed to be watching the horse racing channel with the opposition batsman?) and though we took a few wickets to be fair port always had our measure.
Liam devietti revelled in his role as the strike “quick” taking 1-10 off 6 overs of incredibly surprising, accurate medium pace.
You can’t win them all and we were beaten by a better team on the day.
Onwards and upwards for the mighty 3s next week.
BHUTANESE ROVERS 3RD GRADE
Won by 73 runs against Mulgrave.
HALPIN PARTNERS COLTS (CPL)
Rovers Colts 8/236 -vs Mulgrave 9/159
Our first CPL game saw Rovers take on Mulgrave at Walker Rd.
It was great to see these fantastic young cricketers playing together for the first time in one team.
Rovers batted first and put on a strong total of 236 aided by some excellent middle order batting with Lucas, Xavier and Blake all hitting 30’s. Then Tadgh pushed the total up with some controlled hitting to bring up 56 not out from 45 balls.
Mulgrave was going to have to bat extremely well to reach this total but our bowlers came out firing. The opening bowlers of Xavier and Blake then followed by Brodie M and Tadgh strangled the Mulgrave batting to be 0/19 off of 10 overs which put us in the box seat. The wickets were shared around which befits such a wonderful team performance.
A big thanks to Hayden and Jack for backing up and playing for the team. Thanks to the scorers Paul and Clare, the umpires Dolf, Jared, Simon and Wheels.
A huge thanks to Kelly for taking care of our nutritional requirements to take on an 80 over match.
Also a big welcome to Jack, Brodie M and Xavier for joining us at the green machine.
TIER 3 U18 FNQ NATURE TOURS ROVERS
A Rovers side boasting five debutantes to Tier 3 won the toss and sent the home side in. Norths got off to a solid start and it took a cheeky run out at the non strikers end from Rovers skipper Caleb to dismiss a complacent norths opener.
From that point our boys were able to take regular wickets and over by over pull the run rate back to restrict the opposition to a total of 144 from 35 overs.
Our side went to work seeing off the opening bowlers, then looking to capitalise through the middle overs.
Wil and Prinil were putting a handy partnership together when play was unexpectedly stopped due to a misinterpretation of the rules regarding time limitations and playing conditions.
At the time, Rovers had Wil, 23* (33) and Pranil 9* (31) requiring 54 runs at a run a ball with 3 wickets in hand.
Batting honours went to Wil 23* (33) while bowling honours went to Toby 1/7 (3).
Congratulations to our debutants Toby, Oscar, Jack, Jo and Kaden.
Big thank you as always to those who put there hand up to umpire, score and give throw downs. It’s very much appreciated.
TIER 3 U18 SUPER GLOBAL SERVICES ROVERS
Rovers 5/114 (29 overs) defeated by Barron River 9/115
This week’s clash had more plot twists than a Netflix crime thriller and enough tension to make even seasoned cricket tragics bite their nails.
With a few of our stars unavailable, we welcomed Neil and Finn into the side who stepped up like the seasoned professionals they are. Up against a Barron River outfit stacked with talent, we lost the toss and were sent in on a soft, green wicket that looked like it had been prepared for a swamp monster, not a cricket match.
Bikram and Thomas strode out to open and immediately set the tone, with a rock-solid partnership of 52 that was sturdier than the pitch itself. Thomas was outstanding, carving out a classy 40, while Luca (15) and Bikram (10) provided valuable support. Unfortunately, Barron’s slow-motion over rate meant we only squeezed in 29 overs, finishing at 5/114.
Barron came out swinging like they were auditioning for Fast & Furious: Boundary Drift, racing to 4/94 before the Rovers lads, mounted one of the greatest comebacks since David took on Goliath. Wickets started tumbling faster than snacks at a kids’ birthday party, 5 for 12 in a thrilling collapse. Barron needed 2 from 3 balls… and just when it looked like a Hollywood ending was ours, their No. 11 skied one straight up. Time stood still, only for the ball to somehow find grass instead of our hands, and Barron scampered through for the winning runs.
It wasn’t our day on the scoreboard, but it was an absolute epic in every other sense. The boys showed heart, grit, and a true team spirit right down to the final delivery. Against one of the comp favourites, this performance proved the Super Global Services Rovers are going to be serious contenders this season.
Players of the Match:
Thomas – A classy 40 at the top of the order and 2/14 with the ball
Luca – Energetic and dependable performance all-round. 15 with the bat and 3 wickets and a catch
Bring on Round 2 — the Super Global Services Rovers are revved up, battle-tested, and ready to roll into Season 2025!
TIER 2 U 13 WGC ROVERS V ZARRAFFAS ROVERS
WGC Rovers 7/177 v Zaraffas Rovers 78.
It was the battle of the Green machines at Endeavour 2 and it wasn’t long for the witty banter to kick in between the mates on both sides. Batting first WGC, amassed a formidable total of 7/177 with most batsmen hitting double digits. Riley was elegant off his legs with a top score of 29 from just 22 balls. Aadit 24, Charlie 19 and Ryan 17 were also amongst the runs. Knowing the fire power Zaraffas Rovers had in the shed the boys needed to bowl tightly from the get go. Ashton 2/1, understood the task at hand, picking up two early wickets to the leave the opposition in disarray. Aadit 2/24, cleaned up two batters in two balls to help put the game to bed. Isaac 1/8 and Jacob 1/1 were also very handy with ball in hand. The fielding was outstanding with the boys plucking outfield catches from the sky effortlessly.
With such a huge team effort it was difficult to pick players of the match but for WGC Rovers players of the match went to Aadit and Riley.
Players of the match for Zarraffa’s were Neil, with an impressive 38, and first gamer, Joe with 9 runs and a wicket. Congratulations to Zarraffa’s other debutant, Will, who also chimed in with a wicket.
TIER 1 U11
AGL PAINTING ROVERS GREEN V ARCHERS BODY CORP ROVERS
Overall it was a great contest between both sides for first game of the season. Quite a few debutants in the match who are now feeling a lot less nervous after getting their first game dusted. Going by the scorebook we had AGL with 122 runs (including their 11 dismissals) and ABC with 95 runs (including their 8 dismissals). Both teams overall had each player contribute and it was great to see a pretty low extras count for week 1.

CNW ELECTRICAL ROVERS V NORTHS BLACK
Rovers Redbacks (name change pending – stay tuned) 150 v Norths 159.
A mix of returning legends and boom recruits took the field for our first game of the season. Captain Oliver won the bat toss and we decided to bowl. We found wickets a little hard to come by but each of Campbell, Oliver and Jackson grabbed a wicket.
Though we faced a steep chase all batsmen, sorry Bronte, batspersons, had a go and we found the boundary many times throughout our innings. Hudson was a stand-out on debt with 23, Jacob 21 and Xander 18.
Though we ended a couple short, a great morning was had by all and it was great to be back into the swing of cricket again.
Coach’s award to 2 of our debutants, Oliver and Hudson.
