Weekly Update - 11th March
Greetings Rovers Fans!
Welcome back to another exciting edition of our weekly Rovers newsletter!
Despite a rather wet weekend leading to the abandonment of all final matches for Rovers, the spirit of our team remains strong. Though the rain may have dampened the pitch, it hasn’t dampened our enthusiasm!
In the aftermath of the abandoned games in tier 3, and considering our position on the ladder, both teams have unfortunately slipped out of finals contention. However, there’s still plenty of Rovers cricket action to look forward to!
Our 1st grade team, finishing a commendable second on the ladder, has secured their spot in the Grand Final against Mulgrave. Join us this Saturday, March 16th, at Minnecon Gregory Oval, with the action commencing from 12:30 pm.
Meanwhile, our 3rd grade team, despite their valiant efforts, is now out of finals contention following the abandonment of the semi-finals.
Over in 2nd grade, our team finished atop of the ladder. They’ll face off against the Mulgrave Toads in the Grand Final on Sunday, March 17th, at GP1, starting at 12:30 pm.
As we gear up for the final week of Tier 1 and Tier 2 matches, all eyes are on the upcoming T2 finals round this Saturday. Make sure to check out playcricket for full details of all matches.
Join us for the last junior training session on Wednesday, March 13th, where we’ll be serving up delicious pizzas and refreshing drinks for all. Stick around for a bite to eat.
Lastly, mark your calendars for our upcoming annual presentation on Sunday, March 24th, starting at 2 pm at the Red Beret. It promises to be an afternoon filled with celebration and the well-deserved recognition of our dedicated cricketers.
Let’s unite in our support for the Rovers Cricket Club – Go Rovers!
JUNIOR RESULTS – TIER 1
Probably the only game for the weekend that managed to start.
Tier 1. Rovers Redbacks 81 v Barron – Abandoned
Captain Riley won the bat flip under grey skies and decided to bat. With a soft outfield, runs were going to be valuable and we managed to coax Barron into quite a few over-throws with our cheeky running. The Morgun / Lewis partnership of devil-may-care running was certainly entertaining to watch – on one occasion a suicide single turned into an all run 4!!
Everyone batted well and we felt we had a reasonable score on the board. Riley’s weekly direct hit run-out can in the first over this week and then Aadit almost took a great outfield catch. Alas after 3 overs of the Barron innings the rain set in and we had to call stumps – we figured we had probably played more cricket than most this weekend and, most importantly, we had fun.
