TWOMEY SCHRIBER PROPERTY GROUP 1ST GRADE
1st Grade: Rovers 107 def. by Atherton 3/109
The Rovers took on Atherton on a spicy deck that offered plenty for the bowlers — and unfortunately, we couldn’t quite put together the partnerships needed to post a competitive total. A mix of good deliveries and some soft dismissals saw wickets fall regularly, with only Eddy (31) and Henry (27) showing real resistance in the middle. Their efforts helped us scrape to 107 before being bowled out.
Defending a low total, we started brightly with an early run out and a sharp stumping giving us a sniff, but Atherton’s experienced batting lineup steadied and chased down the target with relative ease. Not the result we were after, but full credit to Atherton on regaining the Muoio-Ferguson Shield — well deserved.
Plenty to learn and improve on as we turn our focus to next Sunday’s massive city rivalry against Norths. It’s shaping up as a huge day for the club with the 2s also in action at GP. Let’s get as many Rovers down to support both teams, enjoy some food platters, and show why we’re the best CLUB in the region.
RED BERET 2ND GRADE
Rovers 108 def. Spicy Bites 106
A fantastic bowling display proved decisive as the 2s secured a hard earned victory.
Losing the toss, we were sent in to bat. Grinding efforts from Dayne (12) and Presty (28) built nicely from a cautious start. As a collective, we knew our batting hadn’t clicked in recent weeks, but Chaddy (33) showed patience, contributing valuable runs in tough conditions. Scoring never came easily, and we were eventually bowled out for 108 in the 35th. While disappointing not to bat the 40, credit must go to the bowlers who backed up superbly in response.
Ian (2-8) and Watto (1-12) showed great patience and discipline upfront, earning their rewards with early breakthroughs…fantastic efforts. Brodie (2-13) continued the pressure through the middle, claiming key wickets to leave the Spicy Bites reeling at 5-25.
Credit to Ajun for carrying his bat, but we proved too strong in the crucial moments. Experience told in the end, Lock (3-28) held his nerve and closed it out under pressure for a special finish sneaking home by 2.
A great fight from the boys, but we must apply ourselves better with the bat and do the hard work.
Big thank you to all Roving supporters who came down, this one was for you! Well done all.
FGF DEVELOPMENTS 3RD GRADE Rovers Triumph Under DLS in a Tight Contest
The FGF Developments Rovers put in a determined performance against Barron River CC at Griffith Park 2, showcasing resilience and strong individual displays both on and off the field.
Barron River CC posted an impressive 6/203. Brodie Masina was outstanding in leading from the front, showing game awareness far beyond his age. He finished with 2/21 from seven economical overs — including an incredible run of 24 consecutive dot balls that put real pressure on the opposition’s middle order. Lucas Brierley also played a key role, claiming 3/55 from his seven overs and maintaining attacking intent throughout his spell.
Agiapal Singh chipped in with a vital wicket, while Tyson Royal and Rhys Thomas kept things tight through the middle overs despite several tough dropped chances — five of which came off Thomas’s bowling.
In reply, Rovers battled valiantly to reach 7/173 when play concluded due to time restrictions. Lucas Brierley backed up his bowling heroics with a fluent 58 (55), striking eight boundaries to keep the chase alive. Agiapal Singh added a brisk 29, while Brodie Masina (18*) steadied the innings at the end. Rhys Thomas also contributed a quickfire 18 at the top of the order.
When the match concluded, the DLS calculation confirmed Rovers as winners by two runs in a thrilling finish.
The group played with respect, teamwork, and spirit throughout the day, upholding the Rovers’ values both on and off the field. The squad can take plenty of positives from this match as they look to build momentum heading into the next round. Well done, team!
3RD GRADE BHUTANESE ROVERS
Mulgrave won by 55 runs.
HALPIN PARTNERS COLTS (CPL)
Halpin Partners Rovers CPL Colts 5-144 defeated Norths 140.
We lost the toss, and Norths chose to bat.
With seven players backing up from morning games we faced a tough session in the field on a more than warm afternoon.
Missing our star wicketkeeper, Ben Wheeler, we needed to put in a special fielding effort. Tight bowling from our opening bowlers, Blake Watson (6 overs for 7 runs) and Ian De Lange (4 overs for 6 runs and a wicket) Norths had a tough time getting started. We saw more tight bowling from Lucas Brierley (5 overs for 17 runs and getting 2 wickets), then enter young gun Caleb North also restricting the run rate, taking 3 quick wickets with brilliant figures of 7 overs, 2 maidens 3 wickets for 12. Our bowlers were supported by some solid fielding from our up-and-coming juniors from Tier 3. We managed to restrict Norths to 140 runs after 38.5 overs.
Requiring a run rate of 3.6 to win, our openers managed a first partnership of 32, helping us on our way. Ian de Lange looked great for his 32 off 51 balls with four 4s and a steady run rate sustained by Lucas Brearley (8/8) and Blake Watson (13/13). Then came some wonderful batting and a final partnership from our senior players Shivy Pandy (23/54) and Taj Walker (25/39) to bring us home with 5 wickets in hand and 6 overs remaining, showing our young players how it’s done.
A solid win, in tough conditions, particularly for those who had started at 8 AM and finished late afternoon after a full day in the sun.
Awards went to our four young guns, Caleb North, Travis Hodge, Hugh Ferguson, and Carter Peters. They are always there when they’re needed.
Special thanks to our coaches Simon and Dolf, to our umpires (Dolf and Jarred) and to Bernard and Paul for scoring and Rakesh for afternoon tea and pizzas.
TIER 3 U18 SUPER GLOBAL SERVICES ROVERS
Super Global Services Rovers 84 all out defeated Atherton all out 64
If last week we were cruising like a Tesla on autopilot, this week was more like pushing a wheelbarrow uphill through wet cement. And yet, somehow, some way, the Rovers boys turned grit into glory.
We won the toss and batted on a pitch with more personality than most reality TV contestants. The wicket was lively, the grass was thick, and scoring runs felt about as easy as solving Rubik’s Cube blindfolded. It was ones or the odd boundary, and nothing in between.
Thomas (10), Luca (14), and Hugh (22) all worked hard to keep the score ticking. Matthew “Mungus” fought through the tough conditions for a well-earned 16, and Joash’s heroic 23-ball survival absolutely kept the innings breathing. We were eventually bowled out in the 31st over for 84, our second lowest total of the season, but given the conditions, those 84 runs were worth their weight in gold bullion.
Highlight of the innings: Luca charging down the wicket on a free hit and absolutely launching one of Atherton’s quicks over midwicket like a junior Matthew Hayden auditioning for the Boxing Day Test.
Change of innings. Spirits were… cautious. Then Captain Mungus delivered a speech that would’ve had Trevor Gillmeister high-fiving the dressing room on Origin night. Fire in the belly, spark in the eyes, chests out like roosters.
What followed with the ball was simply heroic.
The whole team bowled tighter than Glen McGrath defending a 3-run lead. Most bowlers went at under 2 runs per over. Fielding? Well, let’s just say if the Oscars gave awards for catching, we’d have needed a bigger trophy shelf.
We had seven different players take catches, including:
• Evan throwing himself full length on the circle in a grab that belongs in slow-motion cinema
• Mungus taking a screamer at slip that could be shown in coaching manuals
Plus two run outs that caused enough chaos to wake the plovers on the next oval.
Atherton were rolled for 64 with seven balls to spare, and the Rovers lads walked off with their chests puffed, smiles wide, and parents wondering if they’d just watched their kids channel the 2005 Ashes team.
This was a win built on grit, discipline, teamwork, and a complete refusal to go quietly.
Well done lads. We are building beautifully.
Players awards went to Joash, Evan and Riley
Next stop: Mulgrave.
Pack your sunscreen, pack your heart, and pack your catching hands. We are rolling.
TIER 3 U18 FNQ NATURE TOURS ROVERS
FNQ Nature Tours continued its tour of Far North Queensland with today’s match taking place at Walker Rd Edmonton against Mulgrave.
The Green Machine were instructed to field first after losing the toss on a seemingly flat track and a lightning fast out field.
Our bowlers got to work with the usual economical bowling but it wasn’t until first change bowler Wil found the edge that the first wicket fell.
Mulgrave made it to the drinks break (3/64) with wickets going to Eli and Caleb. Pranil followed them up with a wicket straight after drinks.
Enter Carter. In a game changing spell of six overs the young off spinner was able to snag 5/14, putting our lads in a commanding position with Hayden finished things off with the first ball of his second spell leaving Mulgrave bowled out for 112 in the 31st over.
Our top order (Carter 24* (67), Travis 26 (36), Pranil 14 (17) and Caleb 18* (43)) perhaps put together their best performance of the year to date with all of them reaching double figures and chasing down the target with the loss of only two wickets.
Player of the match awards went to Eli for taking his first wicket of Tier 3 (with his first ball) and Cooper for two catches and a stint as keeper when needed.
TIER 2 U 13 ZARRAFFAS ROVERS
Tier 2 Zarraffa’s Rovers 8/167 defeated Norths Black 8/127
After a heavy loss last week, the boys were hungry for redemption — and came out with a point to prove. Winning the toss and electing to bat, the Rovers got off to a solid, workmanlike start. Alex M was once again the rock at the top of the order, carrying his bat for 33 not out, with handy contributions from Joe (16), Andrew (18), and Neil (36*). At 2 for 110 just after the first drinks break, the scoreboard was ticking over nicely and things were looking rosy. But, as cricket often reminds us, one wicket brings two — and a flurry of loose shots combined with some sharp catching from Norths saw Rovers bowled out for 167 with four overs still in the shed.
In reply, Norths came out swinging and looked to be in control early, before Alex M turned the game on its head with two wickets in two balls to put the brakes on. Then came Alex I, fresh from a Wednesday night bowling tune-up with John, who tore through the middle order, snaring 3 wickets in 9 balls. From there, the writing was on the wall — a well-deserved win and a great bounce-back performance from the Rovers. Player award went to Alex I for his tremendous bowling.
TIER 2 U 13 WGC ROVERS
Tier 2 WGC Rovers 4/205 v Atherton 7/179.
Once again batting out the full 30 overs paid in dividends for the boys. Batting first Charlie 17 from 22 balls and Aadit 29 from 35 balls, saw out the opening attack to lay the platform for another big total. Ashton continued to treat bowlers with contempt, hitting his second 50 of the season with an aggressive 54 from just 22 balls. Finn 29 from 16 balls, Riley 14 from 22 balls and Ryan 13 from 22 balls all batted well.
Dropped catches were the order for the day in the fieldind innings and almost proved costly in obtaining the win. Charlie had the ball on a string with 3/10 from his 4 overs. Aadit chipped in with an impressive 2/6 from 2 overs to ensure another good win for the lads. Players of the match went to Charlie, Ashton and Aadit.
TIER 1 U11 AGL PAINTING ROVERS GREEN
AGL Painting Rovers Green 144 def Barron River 127.
Another great team effort today with wickets shared around the group and some solid batting with minimal dismissals. Multiple wickets to Ollie and Roly, and some fireworks with the bat from Charlie with 22 off 11. Players of the match were Josh and Charlie, our superstar siblings.
TIER 1 U11 ROVERS ARCHERS BODY CORPORATE
Barron Red 145 defeated Rovers ABC 91.
A tough day at the office for a young Rovers today. We won the toss and sent Barron in but the toss was the only thing we looked like winning. Barron batted solid and we gave away 40 extras including 28 wides while only picking up two wickets.
Everyone tried hard but it wasn’t our day in the field. Congrats to Aaron taking his catch and Cooper H, Cooper L and Kitty all bowling economically. Brianna keeping the energy up and saving every run possible.
Our turn to bat and Cooper H came out swinging scoring 4 boundaries on his way to a quick fire 17,
We lost our way in the middle losing multiple wickets even a strong finish from Cooper L with 18 off 15 balls couldn’t get us close to the target.
On the upside both Ben and Aaron scored their first ever boundary’s .
Plenty to work on but I know we will be better next week.
Award went to Brianna for her high energy and never give up approach.
TIER 1 U11 CNW ELECTRICAL ROVERS
Rovers Renegades 142 v Mulgrave 85.
The Renegades got our first look at the freshly laid Endeavour 3 pitch as Captain Morgun won the toss and sent the toads in to bat.
Despite an unexpected plague of “Flossing” in the field – to the relief of all the tall coach did NOT join in – we kept the bowling and fielding tight throughout the visitors innings. All bowlers were hard to get away with Xander particularly miserly. Shenuka completed a neat caught and bowled.
When it was our turn to bat all rovers showed good intent and kept the scoreboard clicking over. Runs came from all with Jacob (31) Damondeep (19) Xander (18) and Shenuka (18) leading the charge.
A great display of sportsmanship from our young rovers with our boys more than happy to field for the opposition who were 1 short. Alas the carrot of a free soft-drink from coach if you caught a teammate out went unclaimed.
Players of the match Jacob and Shenuka.
President – John Margiotta
Vice President – Simon North
Treasurer – Noelle Halpin
Secretary – Mark Malone
Junior Representative – Sim North
Players Representative – Chris Davies and Aaron lock
