Hello Rovers Community,
It’s been another great week around the club with some fantastic performances to celebrate.
A huge congratulations to Neil, who smashed an impressive 117 not out in Tier 2 on Saturday, what a great result. Well done!
And another outstanding effort from Ashton, who blasted 87 not out off 36 balls in Tier 2, great work, young man!
A big thank-you also to Mick Sporles and family, who were down at cricket on Saturday helping out with the club BBQ and canteen. It’s great to see former players giving their time and supporting the club we really appreciate it!
This Wednesday night after junior training, we will have pizza and pasta available, so stick around for a feed and a catch-up with your teammates and families.
The season’s rolling along nicely as we build momentum heading into the next few rounds keep up the great energy both on and off the field, Rovers!
TWOMEY SCHRIBER PROPERTY GROUP 1ST GRADE
1st Grade: Rovers 9/270 def. Cassowary Coast 225
First win of the season! 💚
A high-scoring affair at GP2 saw the Rovers claim a much-deserved victory over a strong Cassowary Coast outfit.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, the boys were shocked as one of the visitors’ PNG imports went airborne to take an absolute screamer and remove Chaddy early. Phelps looked solid at the top, crafting a handy 22 before falling.
Then came the veteran, Eddy. In preparation for Karachi, he unleashed pure chaos on the Cyclones’ bowlers — finding the boundary with ease and launching one into orbit that crash-landed into the old lawn bowls green. A top-notch 84 from the big man set the platform beautifully.
Fresh off dominating in the 2s, Presty carried that confidence straight into the top grade — hammering the most bombs of the day on his way to a brilliant 66. Henry then kept the momentum rolling with a composed 33, pushing us to a monstrous 270.
With the pitch looking flat and Cassowary’s top order filled with quality, we knew it’d take discipline to defend. Their openers came out swinging, racing to a 100-run stand mixed with aggressive shots and missed chances before Jack the Magnet turned the tide — flying across GP2 to claim a superb catch, along with 2 more further into the innings (fresh from navigating the skies earlier).
From there, we took control. Ruben was outstanding once again, working tirelessly for a brilliant 4/40, taking key wickets just when we needed them. Our pace brigade utilised change-ups beautifully, sharing crucial wickets as Cassowary Coast’s late hitting couldn’t bridge the gap.
While it wasn’t our prettiest performance, it was exactly what we needed — our first win of the season.
Best of luck to all our rep players heading to Mackay next weekend, and we’ll look to keep the momentum rolling as we head up the hill to Atherton in a fortnight to defend the Muoio-Ferguson Shield.
RED BERET 2ND GRADE
BYE
FGF DEVELOPMENTS 3RD GRADE V BHUTANESE ROVERS 3RD GRADE
Regular Rovers 4-120 def Bhutanese Rovers 119.
An all green shoot-out at the traditional home of steamy cricket – Endeavour park. The Bhutanese blasters opened the batting but were rocked by a wicket first ball. The ever classy skipper Sanjay (38) steadied the ship and a big score beckoned until Agiapal Singh (2-15) started a team hatrick as the (regular) 3s awoke from their slumber (or was it heat-stroke?). The spinners then turned the screws with skipper Dayne hey-margarita (2-13) and Wit (2-16) starring. The thresh chimed in with 2-9 to finish the innings.
The Rovers innings started well but a run out and another wicket provided some jitters. But skipper Dayne stood tall with 49 and Wit (19 not out) put the finishing touches on a well time chase for the green machine.
A match played in great spirit was signed-off with a cold sausage and a beer.
HALPIN PARTNERS COLTS (CPL)
Halpin Partners Colts (6–186) beat Atherton (10–83).
We travelled over the mountain to face Atherton under sunny skies. Winning the toss we chose to bat. A good opening partnership of 61 runs from Ian De Lang 45, and Cody Peters 17 got us off to a solid start. A patient contribution from Brodie North 20 was built on by a wonderful innings from Taj Walker 37 and with a final flourish from Tadhg Mcdavitt(13 off 8), we posted 186 runs off our 40 overs.
Atherton struggled to get out of the blocks, pinned down by some excellent bowling by Xavier Curtin 1/10 off 5 overs, a very fast Blake Watson 2/17, and an economical Ian De Lange (3 wickets off 4 overs for 7 runs).
Then Brodie North struck at the heart of Atherton with a brilliant run out capitalising on some confused calling from two of the best Atherton batters. The elevated celebration carried our spirits with some fine fielding and more tight bowling from Taj Walker 1/1, Tadhg 1/10, Brodie North 1/1 and with both Brodie Masina and Lucas really bowling well, but unlucky not to pick up a wicket. As always, Ben Wheeler was safe behind the wickets with the gloves. The energy of the team was second to none, supporting and encouraging each other throughout the game. We eventually managed to knock out the balance of the Atherton batters finishing them at 10–83.
There is always room for improvement and we will work on that throughout the season, but at the end of Saturday it was great to drive down the hill with a solid win against old rivals.
Thanks to Simon and Dolf for their great coaching, to Dolf and Jared for umpiring, to Paul and Clare for scoring and to Clare and Rod for a relaxing afternoon tea in the shade.
The Colts’ season has started well with lots more to come!
TIER 3 U18 FNQ NATURE TOURS ROVERS 6/118 V TIER 3 U18 SUPER GLOBAL SERVICES ROVERS 9/70
The Rovers Derby (Round 3)
This week brought us the Battle of the Green – Rovers vs Rovers – where friendships were temporarily paused, bragging rights were up for grabs, and even the umpires weren’t sure who to cheer for.
A heavy Cairns dew greeted both teams, making the ball as slippery as a bar of soap in a toddler’s bath. FNQ Nature Tours Rovers won the toss and chose to bat first, and their openers Travis (13) and Carter (30) got things rolling with a strong start. Caleb (19) and Will (21) kept the scoreboard ticking nicely, steering their side to an above-par total of 118.
Super Global Services fought hard in the field, pulling off some highlight-reel moments, two direct-hit run-outs from Lucas and Evan, a sharp stumping from Rocco, and a brilliant four-wicket haul from Matthew “Mungus” (who was practically unplayable). Bikram bowled with laser precision, finishing with an incredible 1/6 off 6 overs, economy tighter than a Sunday roast budget.
As the innings changed, so did the free flowing of runs. FNQ Nature Tours’ bowlers put on a ruthless display of discipline and accuracy, squeezing the Super Global Services lineup like a boa constrictor at feeding time. Only Hugh (29) and Bikram (12) managed to reach double figures. Hayden was the standout with the ball, claiming 3/5, while Oscar (2/6) and Caleb (3 catches) kept the pressure on throughout.
In the end, FNQ Nature Tours proved too good on the day, claiming bragging rights in the inaugural
Rovers Derby. But with both teams showing great sportsmanship, smiles, and plenty of laughs, it was Rovers Cricket that truly came out on top.
Players of the Match (Joint Award):
FNQ Nature Tours Rovers: Carter, Hayden & Oscar
Super Global Services Rovers: Hugh & Mungus.
Round 4 can’t come soon enough, both teams are fired up, friendships are back on, and the Rovers family is rolling into the season in style!
TIER 2 U 13 ZARRAFFAS ROVERS
Tier 2 Zarraffa’s Rovers 4-253 defeated Cyclones 6-198.
Rovers one the toss and elected to bat. Toby (7) and Alex M (12* retired) saw of the opening bowlers before an unbeaten century making masterclass by Neil (117* not out) took the innings to another level.
Everybody batted well around him with Joe retired on 34*, Will 22, Andrew 16, Alex I 9 and debutant Cooper 5 not out. In the field the boys toiled honestly in the heat to restrict Cyclones who never were able to get on top of the required run rate.
Awards this week to Neil for his outstanding batting innings and to Cooper for backing up after Tier 1 and contributing well with bat and ball.
TIER 2 U 13 WGC ROVERS
Tier 2 WGC Rovers 7/267 v Atherton 4/146.
Once again batting first, the top 4 batters laid a solid platform for the team. Opening the batting Oscar 37 not out off 42 balls and Aadit 26 from 26 balls continued to frustrate opposition bowlers with delicate placement of shots and strike rotation. Finn chipped in with a quick fire 23 off 16 balls.
In stepped Glenn Maxwell aka Ashton Mauldon, who after just falling short of his maiden fifty last week was on mission. The plovers knew what was best for them and changed fields as a rain of red cherries began to fall down upon them. Even the scorers were in danger at one stage as Ashton blasted 7 x 6s and 8 x 4s finishing with an unbelievable 87 not out off 36 balls.
Atherton batters were solid and some wayward and short bowling from Rovers allowed them to bat out their 30 overs. Jacob, Finn, Ashton and Cooper chipped in with a wicket each. Riley bowled very tightly to keep the batters under the pump with only 7 runs conceded from his 3 overs. Jacob was easily the best of the bowlers finishing with 1 for 5 from 3 overs.

AGL PAINTING ROVERS GREEN
AGL Rovers 129 def Norths 92. A great effort all round today in the heat. Batted first and only gave away 2 wickets in our 20 overs! Josh and Luca had us off to a flyer, with Roly helping out in the middle and Charlie at the tail. Bowling was again on point with Oli, Hendrix and Charlie all picking up 2 wickets.
Awards to Oli for strike bowling and Hendrix for a great improvement in his bowling and batting.

ROVERS ARCHERS BODY CORPORATE
Rovers ABC 148 V Norths 54
A great day out for our young Green Machine. Rovers bowled first and were on from ball one. Brianna collected a wicket maiden in the opening over and all our bowlers made life difficult for a young Norths team. We ended up taking 15 wickets for 54, Johno the destroyer returning figures of 4/8 and a run out to top it off
Aaron and Copper H also taking two wickets each.
Our turn to bat and everyone was rock solid to say least. We went the entire innings without losing a single wicket. An amazing achievement for the team. Bradley and Cooper L scoring 17 each and Cooper H 16.
Our newest team member Ben made an outstanding debut with bat, ball and a sold job as wicket keeper. All and all a fantastic team effort .
Awards went to Johno and Ben.
TIER 1 U11
CNW ELECTRICAL ROVERS
Rovers Renegades 135 v Barron 164. Captain Bronte won the toss and we elected to field. Both teams enjoyed the fast Smithfield ground and the opportunity to hit some boundaries! Damondeep returned from injury with a wicket on his 2nd ball and Morgun completed a great direct hit run out. Everyone bowled tightly but wickets were a little hard to come by.
Though we lost wickets at regular intervals when it was our turn to bat, it was great to see some of our young batsman grow in confidence as they got a bit more bat on ball this week. Morgun hit our first two 6s of the season on the way to 19. Hudson made a handy 14 and Xander 13.
Another fun Saturday morning for all. Thanks as always to Dave for scoring and a shout out to our players of the match Damondeep and Morgun.
