Hello Rovers Community,
All our Rovers teams juniors and seniors were back in action over the weekend with mixed results. There were some strong performances, close finishes, and plenty of great cricket played across the club. The season is building nicely as everyone settles into their stride.
Have a great week!
TWOMEY SCHRIBER PROPERTY GROUP 1ST GRADE
Rovers 84 def. by Mulgrave 154
A depleted Rovers outfit put in a spirited display, but ultimately came out empty-handed in a tough outing against the Toads.
Bowling first into a harsh wind, Xavier set the tone with a tight opening spell. Whilst Mulgrave’s opener got them off to a flyer. Jack produced a superb piece of fielding to break the partnership with a run out, and Tyson toiled away in the testing conditions. Sauce then turned the tide with a crucial double strike, removing both Reidy and Roachy on his way to a well-earned 3/36. From there, wickets continued to fall at regular intervals, with Ruben again outstanding — his consistency rewarded with figures of 2/18. Presty chipped in with a sharp direct hit, and Brodie bowled well without the luck he deserved. With some late hitting pushing Mulgrave to 154.
Unfortunately, our batting innings never quite got going. The top order struggled, with wickets falling in clumps. Xavier shone at the tail, showing great fight to push us towards respectability before we were bowled out for 84.
Plenty of heart shown despite the challenges of numerous unavailabilities. Huge thanks to everyone who stepped up, as well as Sara for scoring and John for setting up the Frogbox once again
A massive clash looms next week against Cass Coast. If you’re free Saturday arvo, head down to GP2 and get behind the boys.
RED BERET 2ND GRADE
Rovers 173-7 defeated Punjabis 103 all out.
A top performance from the mighty Twos this afternoon! After winning the toss, we chose to bat and Presty led the way with a superb 88…including a few big hits that left the Punjabi skipper with just a swollen lip, very lucky! Archie added a handy 22 as we posted 173.
Watto (3-26) tore through the top order to put the pressure on early, with a sharp catch from keeper Joe getting us going. A brief fightback from their middle order was snuffed out by Lockie (2-17), who grabbed two key wickets. Curly Lucas took (3-10) at the end to seal the win and 6 points.
A great all round team effort, well done.
No game next week, so we’ll all be out supporting the club. Let’s keep the momentum going legends!
FGF DEVELOPMENTS 3RD GRADE
Rovers (9-105) lost to Norths (6-106)
BHUTANESE ROVERS 3RD GRADE
Rovers (6-123) Won by 4 wickets agaist Port Douglas Muddies (7-122)
HALPIN PARTNERS COLTS (CPL)
We lost the toss and were sent in to field. The energy and effort in the field was incredible considering that 9 players played a game in the morning and were asked to do it all over again in the afternoon. Ben Wheeler was solid behind the stumps with a classic “Jonny Bairstow “ stumping. Thomas Boyd took 2 wickets, Caleb North 2 and Carter Peters 1. Capt Ian de Lange bowled 7 overs, 4 maidens 0/11 . With some good field placing and a very slow outfield we restricted Norths to 128 runs. We batted and continue to loose wicket regularly with Hugh Ferguson 13 and Caleb North 12 trying their best to save the innings.
Thanks to the 7 boys who stepped up today and who are knocking on the door for a spot on the Colts side.
It is back to working hard at training as it is only game 2 and there is a long season ahead of us .
Thanks to Dolf De Lange for coaching and taking on the lion’s share of umpiring with great support from Pete Ferguson and Bernard Wheeler. Thanks to Sanet De Lange for scoring and for Jodi Peters for putting on afternoon tea. Also, a big thanks to Simon North for a huge effort in making sure we recruited the best team for the game.
Awards went to Ian for his great captaincy and very tight bowling, to Ben for some first class wicked keeping and being solid with the bat and Thomas for his two wickets and snappy run out.
Thanks everyone for a great day.
TIER 3 U18 FNQ NATURE TOURS ROVERS
Rovers won the toss and sent the home side in. This proved to be the correct decision as the green machine were able to take regular wickets and restrict mareeba to just 95. Bowling honours went to Carter 3/1 (3) and Pranil 1/1 (3) while Jett contributed with a couple of runouts, one of which was a direct hit from the out field.
Our chase started a little wobbley but our middle order steadied the ship, then our tail wagged to take the game all the way. Our last pair of batters scored eight runs off the last over to tie the match. Top scorers were Pranil 15 (31) and Tommy 11 (22) who was also making his Tier 3 debut.
Many thanks to all the scorers, umpires and helpers on the day. It all certainly makes my job a lot easier and is very much appreciated.
TIER 3 U18 SUPER GLOBAL SERVICES ROVERS
Rovers 4/125 defeated Norths 4/124 (with 2.1 overs to spare)
Well, well, well… if last week’s match was a thriller, this week’s game was a full-blown Hollywood sequel, complete with dropped catches, near heart attacks, and a heroic finish straight out of Rocky II.
Let’s start with the fielding. We dropped so many catches that Norths’ batters had more lives than a cat with a trust fund. Their opening partnership stuck around longer than a bad reality TV series, but thankfully struggled to score. The first wicket finally came when Bikram sent down an absolute peach that caught the edge—only for Mungus’ six-pack to step in as an unscheduled fielding accessory. After juggling the ball more times than a circus clown, Mungus somehow came out on top, and the crowd (okay, our bench) erupted.
From there, the boys tightened the screws. Norths were so starved for runs that we were about to call the Red Cross to deliver supplies. Tight lines and relentless pressure kept them to 4/124. Star bowlers this week were Thomas (2/15), Luca (1/30), and Bikram (1/26), with Hugh bowling like a seasoned pro with 0/8 off 5 miserly overs. Mungus made up for his juggling act with another great catch, and Thomas and Rocco chipped in with one each. Sure, the dropped catches were plentiful but hey, it just gave us more chances to practice!
With the bat, Thomas and Bikram got us off to a solid start once again, setting up the chase beautifully. Thomas added 16 valuable runs. Luca was pure class, belting a composed 42, while Hugh anchored the innings with a mature 38*. Hugh even hit the winning run under the watchful eyes of the A-Grade boys waiting to play, and we wrapped it up with 2.1 overs to spare.
Run-outs seemed to be our weapon of self-destruction again, so that’ll be front and center at Wednesday’s training (right after catching practice!).
Players of the Match:
Luca – Brilliant with both bat and ball.
Hugh – Calm, composed, and clutch under pressure.
Great to get another win on the board, lads! The Super Global Services Rovers are officially rolling, and if we can hold a few more catches, who knows what’s next. Bring on Round 3!
TIER 2 U 13 ZARRAFFAS ROVERS
Zarraffa’s Rovers Tier 2 (5-313) defeated Barron River Red (6-38)
The boys in green were determined to make amends after a Round 1 loss. Rovers batted first and put on a clinic against an inexperienced lineup.
Alex M and Toby (64 retired) got the innings off to a strong start, putting on 44 runs inside the first 5 overs before Alex fell for 23. Strong batting continued with significant contributions from Neil (59 retired), Oliver (27 retired), Ronan (40 retired) and Joe (27) saw the score pass 300.
In reply, Rovers bowlers were able to take regular wickets with Liam, in his first Tier 2 game, (2/5) the pick of the bowlers with two wickets.
Well done on a strong team performance.
TIER 2 U 13 WGC ROVERS
Tier 2 WGC Rovers 7/282 v Mulgrave Five Rivers 7/167 win.
True team effort today against a developing Mulgrave team! Rovers played as one, with good sportsmanship showed all round.
A brilliant opening partnership from Aadit with an aggressive 44 off 36, and Charlie 43 off 40 set the platform for a big score.
Ashton 46 from 25 and Finn 52 not out from 29 balls continued to demolish the Mulgrave bowlers. Finn’s maiden 50 was brought up by a straight drive for four over the bowlers head on the last ball of the innings.
Thanks to Shenuka playing up from tier 1 handling himself well at the crease with 9 off 9 including a stylish 4.
Jacob, Ryan, Riley, Ashton and Cooper all chipped in with a wicket each. Cooper was super economical only exceeding 8 runs from his 3 overs.
Needless to say the batters scooped the pool with Charlie, Aadit, Ashton & Finn all sharing the spoils with players of the match!

ROVERS ARCHERS BODY CORPORATE V MULGRAVE
Our second game of the season saw a much improved performance from the green machine.
Mulgrave won the toss and decided to bat first but we were switched on today
From the start our bowlers were on target and backed up by solid fielding .
Restricting Mulgrave to 89 runs. New comer Oscar was a standout with 3/4 off 3 overs, Teddy picked up two including an impressive catch and bowled , Johno, Aaron and Kitty also picking up a wicket each.
Our turn to bat with the Gaustad brothers getting us off to a solid start and everyone protecting their wickets and running hard we managed to chase down our target
Awards went to Oscar and Kiani.

Rovers Renegades (the artist formerly known as the Redbacks) 100 v Norths Gold 94.
For the second week in a row we took on a norths outfit in a nail biter! Captain Hudson lost the toss and we were sent in. It was obvious from the outset that runs would be hard to come by but our crafty running between the wickets throughout our innings would ultimately prove the difference between the sides. We lost a few wickets along the way but some late order cameos from Morgun (15), Jacob and Shenuka ensured we had something to bowl too.
Our fielding was on from the first ball – with debutant keepers Bronte and Hudson both putting in great stints with the gloves. Campbell took a great caught and bowled to go with his 2 for 2 and Xander’s line and length was impeccable. Ollie and Shenuka also grabbed a wicket. A hard fought victory from our emerging team. Players of the match, Xander and Campbell.
