Weekly Update - 3rd February

The second half of the season was supposed to kick off over the weekend, but due to the wet weather, CFN made the early call to cancel all matches to keep our players and volunteers safe. We’re hopeful that conditions will improve and we’ll be back on the field this coming weekend, 8-9 February.

Practice Match Result

Royal Rovers Combined (219) V Peninsula U19 (100 ish)

On the Australia Day long weeked, a collection of oddballs and misfits lined up to tackle the Peninsula lads to assist them with their preparation for an upcoming carnival.

It was soon apparent to the young bucks (Tayls channeling his inner David Warner) that there are soft kills when a green shirt is involved.  After a lightning opening stand with Marty C, in strode Bhutan’s favourite cricketer – and Diabas responded in kind with a classy 49.  Then it was time for the captain to shine, the taking advantage of an earlier let-off to amass a whirlwind 67.  Handy contributions throughout the innings left us with a very strong 213.

There was hush over the green machine at half time as reality set in for the boys: a) it was hot b) it was a great pitch to bat on & c) most worryingly of all, someone would have to stand at first slip and hear Kael’s ball-by-ball description of his knock (Tayls took one for the team).

However we need not have worried – the young bucks found Ethan (3 for) virtually unplayable – and he was well supported by Blake, Taidgh, Taj and Max.

When the bowlers weren’t striking – the fielders were – 4 run outs in total were effected.

Not to be outdone in the field, Marty C was keen to ensure the opposition were given a chance to fully prepare for the hostile environment that awaits them in South East QLD.  He delivered some great verbal barbs to the nervous batsmen that would have brought a tear to Steve Waugh’s eye.  Importantly he did not play favourites – with the Rovers boys in the opposition getting plenty of attention – some earning new nicknames for the weeks ahead.

When it was all said and done, we had delivered a great performance and some “tough love” for Far Noth’s up and comers.

On a long weekend with a favour needed, all 4 of Rovers senior teams had contributed players to the effort – showing a great spirit in the club which hopefully will lead to bigger and better things in months to come.
