JUNIOR RESULTS – ROUND 10

TIER 3 – Halpin Partners Rovers (8 for 132) V Atherton (158).

Winning the toss, we put Atherton in to bat. They managed a reasonable total of 158. Some great bowling from Carter (2/19 of seven overs), with wickets taken by Jack , Caleb and Cooper Bromell (his first tier 3 wicket!).

We set off to chase 158 of 33 overs. Despite solid batting from Cody, Lucas,Tadhg, Caleb and Ben , we fell short by 26 runs.

A bit of a disappointing result, but it was a big thrill to have the support from five tier 2 players, Kai Lloyd, Mitch O’Kane, Cooper Bromell (all having their Tier 3 debut) Caleb North and Carter Peters to help us out when we really needed it. Thanks fellas we’ll have you back any time.

A special thanks to Chris Bromell for scoring, Bernard for umpiring and to Lucas/Paul for a great morning tea.

That concludes a wonderful first half of the season. A huge thanks to Coach Simon. Hopefully everyone will have a great break and we get the opportunity to rip into it for the second half of the season in the New Year.TIER 2 – Rovers Green V Atherton White – Washed out.

TIER 3 – Super Global Services Rovers (93) V Norths (6-169).

Winning the toss our opening bats survived some good bowling and got through the difficult first 6 overs before losing our first wicket. The boys dug deep on a difficult wicket and managed a respectable 93 all out in 33 overs with captain Lachlan 17 and Lucas 20 our best bats.

The green machine went out with high hopes. T2 legend Joash opened up with some fine swing bowling and was unlucky to not claim an early wickets. Norths opens played patiently with our boys bowling tight lines. Norths opens progressed the score with some attacking shots against our spinners and with our first wicket at 1/ 84 Norths had the game under control and passed out total in 22 overs.

Best bowling Joash, Lachlan and Sean. Proud coach, the team showed true spirit.

Thanks to T2 lads Ashton, Travis, Hugh and Joash. You boys did yourselves proud. Note. The online scoring was closed when Norths passed our total. I will endeavour to get that sorted so all stats are recorded thanks to all parents who assisted.

SENIOR RESULTS

Round 8 – 1st Grade – Twomey Schriber Rovers (8-172) V Barron (9-173).

On a hot and humid Saturday afternoon at Griffith Park, following a week of rain, we faced Barron in a hard-fought contest. After losing the toss, we were sent into bat on what turned out to be a good wicket. Promoted to opener, Chaddy anchored the innings with an impressive 50, while Phelps (22) and Berryman (30) modest contributions through the middle order. Henry King finished unbeaten on 22, helping us post a competitive total.

With the ball, Tommy King and Brenton Edwards bowled superbly, maintaining tight lines and creating pressure. Veteran Aaron Lock turned the game momentarily in our favor, taking three crucial wickets late in the innings to keep us in the hunt. However, Adam Trewin batted brilliantly for Barron, guiding his team over the line and securing their victory.

Ultimately, we were 20 runs short and didn’t have enough to defend. Rovers will be looking to take the positives into a must win game in Atherton next week.

Round 9 – 1st Grade – Twomey Schriber Rovers V Atherton (Lost).
Round 10 – 2nd Grade – Red Beret Hotel Rovers (167) V Mulgrave (98).

The mighty 2s headed up the range with quite a few regulars missing but some stoic Rovers legends filling in to ensure we had a full crew.

We were sent in to bat and were in early trouble 3 down before Joel Sykes and Aaron Lock put together our best partnership of the year so far – 117 – in quick time.  Joel (72 – 5 big sixes) seemed determined to try to hit the ball back to Cairns as the hapless tablelanders watched on in awe.  Aaron was not far behind with another valuable knock – a composed 42.

Though they fell in quick succession Bernard “the wall” Wheeler ensured we kept our opposition in the sun – and getting to see him bat with his son Ben was a brilliant part of the afternoon.

When it was our turn to bowl both Tommy King and captain Sauce (3-23) took early wickets as our opponents never really looked in the hunt.  The returning romeo, Harry Halpin (2-26 off 8) ensured our total was save.

A satisfying and enjoyable win for the mighty 2s ahead of our Xmas break.

Round 10 – 3rd Grade – FGF Rovers (117) V Bhutanese Rovers (4-121).

Bhutanese won the toss and sent FGF to bat first. It was a very hot day and our boys struggled to get the runs with the Bhutanese boys bowling on par our high scorers for the day was Pete on 27 off 53 and Big Hodge on 20 for 46 we were all out for 117 , with Bishall, Meelan and Saroj all taking 2 wickets each. Then when the time came for the Bhutanese boys to bat they stood up to the challenge with winning the game in the 22nd over there top scorers being Bishal on 32 off 40 and Denjom on 27 off 25, with our bowlers all taking a wicket each, Hayden, Chris, Big Hodge and Rangit.

The game was played in great spirit and sportsmanship and congratulations to the Bhutanese taking the win. We were quiet short with holidays and the Australian test going on so we welcomed some new and old faces to the team for the weekend, Thanks Bernard and Chris for stepping in to help out and we welcomed Ben and Hayden to there first seniors game of cricket. With another weekend of 3 father sons duos. All the Rovers 3rds boys wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New years and see you all back in January.
