Weekly Update - 14th October
The 2024/2025 season is officially under way, with both junior and senior teams kicking off round 1 on the weekend. It was a great start to the season and we are excited to see what the teams accomplish this year. Check out the match reports below for a recap of the weekend’s games.
JUNIOR RESULTS – ROUND 1
TIER 3 – Super Global Servcies Rovers v Mulgrave
First round saw us up against Mulgrave at Walker Rd. After winning the toss our top order batted solidly, scoring at 5 an over. After drinks we lost regular wickets and were bowled out in the 31st over for 152. A competitive total on a fast outfield and good pitch( Will Palmer 42, Luca 17, Pranil 17, Thomas 16). Mulgrave started off steady and we bowled tight, at drinks 4/80, game on. Will rotated the bowlers and everyone got overs in and the scores were tight. Going into the final over Mulgrave needed 2 to win and got there with 2 balls remaining. Best bowling Jackson 4/27 off 7, Luca 2/20 off 5. Great effort from all players in a very close game. Thanks to Travis from T2 red for filling in and Sarah P for providing snacks. Awards, Batting award Will P, Bowling award Jackson and all rounder award goes to Thomas.
Overall a good start and we build from that.

An early start at Borzi Park saw us open the batting, after Captain Ian won the toss, for a quick 25 over game. After a steady start with a damp outfield, Shivy was outstanding scoring 75 not out, carrying his bat. We had solid contributions from Ian and Huey, both scoring 25, setting Mareeba a challenging target of 157.
A disciplined bowling display saw us hold Mareeba to 76 runs after 25 overs, with great contributions from all bowlers. Awards went to Shivy (75 not out), Hayden (taking his first T3 wicked, getting their star batsmen) and Carter (3 for 1).
A great start to the season and a special thank you to Dolf for stepping in to coach during Simon’s absence, and to Sanet for scoring and Jared and Dolf for umpiring.
TIER 2 – Rovers Red v Rovers Gold
A Rovers Darby got our season off to a start on a warm and sunny afternoon. Red won the toss and sent Gold in. A steady stream of wickets saw the gold team dismissed in the 25th over for 102. Bowling honours went to Oscar (2/4), Mitch (1/5), and Riley (1/5).
Red went out to bat but were unable to form meaningful partnerships, and apart from a lone hand from Mitch 20* (20), no one went into double figures. Gold winning the match by 40 runs. Players of the match were Ronan and Kaden, both playing in their first tier 2 match.
TIER 2 – Rovers Gold v Rovers Red
Rovers Gold Tier 2 faced off against Rovers Red in a thrilling season opener, packed with Rovers pride. After losing the toss and being sent in to bat, Rovers Gold fought their way to a total of 102. Rocco and Riley both retired after reaching their 25-ball limit, scoring 13* and 11* respectively, while Neil led the charge with a solid 21 off 19 balls.
Elijah set the tone for the season with a sensational start, yet again clean bowling a wicket on the very first ball of the season! The rest of the team chipped in with wickets, but Finn stood out with impressive figures of 2 for 6 from his 2 overs, also securing a run-out. Behind the stumps, Rocco was sharp, taking 3 catches.
Neil and Finn were deservedly named players of the match.
TIER 1 – Rovers Gold (124) v Rovers Red (109)
Tier 1. Rovers Gold 124 Rovers Red 109. The season got underway with a great match between some of Rovers young stars.
Red opened the batting after birthday boy captain Dexter won the toss. For Gold, Kitty was unplayable collecting 2-0 off 3 overs while Cooper H also chimed in with 2 wickets. For Rovers Red, it was middle order sluggers Aadit (20) and Ryan (25) who stole the show.
Gold started off solidly in their chase but exploded when Isaac (30) and Cooper L (22) came to the crease. Despite 2 wickets from each of Aadit and Shenuka, Gold prevailed in a close finish. A great morning was had by all!
SENIOR RESULTS – ROUND 1
1st Grade – Twomey Schriber Rovers (177) v Barron (9-224)
2nd Grade – Red Beret Hotel Rovers (6-157) v Norths Spicey Bite (96)
The defending premiers started their title defence with a tricky match against Norths Spicey Bite. New captain sauce (Chris Davies) lost the toss and we were sent in. Our openers Dayne (27) and Dev (20) set a solid base but a few quick wickets in the middle order were offset by a composed 53 not out from Chaddy as we finished with 157 on a challenging pitch.
Both openers Rob Thresher and Archie Ferguson struck early blows in the Spicey Bite innings. A worrying 3rd wicket partnership was snuffed out by a great catch from captain Sauce. At 5/71 after 20 offers the game was in the balance. Enter everyone’s favourite metronome Rob Thresher who swung the game Rovers way with 4 wickets and very nearly took a hatrick!
Not to be out done, 2s debutant Tadhg chipped in with 2 wickets as we knocked over Spicey Bite for 96.
A very satisfying win for the mighty 2s!
3rd Grade – FGF Rovers (6-128) v Mareeba (6-129)
3rd Grade – Bhutanese Rovers (6-170) v Norths (141)
