SENIOR RESULTS
1st Grade – Rovers Twomey Schriber 7-237 def BRCC 182
2nd Grade – Red Beret Rovers 4-129 (21.1 overs) def BRCC 123.
Missing our young stars, the mighty 2s faced a tricky assignment against Barron River on Sunday afternoon at Crathern Park. We were asked to field and Barron got off to a bit of a flyer in the hot conditions to be well placed at 1-59. Our captain Aaron Lock (4-35) stood tall and our spin twins Chaddy (2-6) and Joel Sykes put the brakes on our opposition. Archie Ferguson took a splendid outfield catch to snuff out Barron’s last major batter as we headed to the break chasing 123 and the minor premiership.
It was not smooth sailing however as we were soon 2-2. Chaddy (20) looked to right the ship but when he fell we were in a vulnerable position at 4-40 and Barron’s tales were up.
Not for long. Joel Sykes strode to the crease and made a brutal 60 not out off only 34 balls with 4’s and 6’s heading in all directions. His clean hitting had silenced our opponents and sent the mighty 2’s into the grand final at Griffiths Park in a fortnight’s time!
3rd Grade – FGF Development Rovers 4-127 def Mareeba 9-125
We lost the toss and Mareeba chose to bat on a flat pitch.
Tommy the destroyer was bending them like Beckham, taking 4 quick wickets and finishing with 6 fa 13 off his 7 overs. Mareeba batted their overs out and ended at 9/125 from their 35 overs.
We then batted and got the 125 in 16 overs with Tommy again starring with 55 from 38 and Harry got 24.
With the win we end up 3rd on the ladder and play Mulgrave next week.
Bring it on!!
3rd Grade – FGF Development Rovers v – Mulgrave – Match Abandoned
JUNIOR RESULTS – TIER 3
Tier 3 – Super Global Service Rovers 5-164 def Mareeba 110 – won by 54 runs
Super G won the toss and decided to bat first. It was hard work scoring runs on a damp outfield, and SG managed to ride the loss of 4 early wickets to post a total over 160 ! Archie was at his majestic best with a superb 87no. Shivy supported him well with 35 and won one of the coaches awards for his best knock of the year.
Mareeba started off like a train with Ryan Jaz hitting a 26 ball 50. Blake then took a great pressure catch on the boundary to get rid of the danger man and Rovers SG wrestled control back and moped up their Innings early with all the bowlers sharing the wickets. Thanks heaps to Trav and Lucas for supporting us from T2. Bring on Barron in the semi next weekend!
Tier 3 – Halpin Partners Rover 9-94 dev Mulgrave 77 – won by 17 runs
With time restrictions we were on 30 overs each.
We loss the toss and were sent into bat first. We were out to have a fun day so reversed our batting order for the game. Our boys made 9/ 94 after 27 overs with our top scores Coop 29 off 29 and Ian 24 off 28. It was our turn to bowl Ian, Cody and Jackson taking 2 wickets each with Mulgrave all out for 77. Thanks to Ben, Thomas, Brodie and Jesse for helping us out. Thanks to Jarred ,Mark and Bernard for umpiring . A shout out to our Coach Darren. Our awards going this week to Matthew, Ben, Nate and Jack. Bring on our Semi Final next week against Atherton!
JUNIOR RESULTS – TIER 2
Tier 2 – Rovers Green v Mareeba
Winning the bat flip, Rovers Green selected to bat first. Changing the batting line up we got off to a slow start loosing some early wickets. Carter, Brodie and Cameron came in down the order to steady the ship. Cameron top scoring with 17no. Mareeba bowled extremely well and had us all out in the 21st over for only 74 runs.
After lunch from the Wheeler family it was time for our bowling line up to shine. Great tight bowling and fielding from the whole team saw us bowl Mareeba out in the 18th over for 43 runs.
Players of the match went to Cameron 17no and 2 for 2, 1 maiden off 2.1 overs.
Caleb 2 overs 0 for 2.
Eli 2 overs 0 for 8.
See you at training Rovers Green.
Tier 2 – Rovers Red v North Girls
After being washed out last week, the boys were happy to see the sun out and even though they lost the toss, spirits were high as the girls elected to bat leaving us to bowl first – something our boys in Red have come to enjoy.
Our team took regular wickets, and despite a couple of drop catches, our fielding on the whole was quite sharp, including two run outs. One direct hit from Sean and the other required some clever keeping from Henry to deflect the ball straight onto the stumps to take the last wicket. The girls found themselves all out for 70. Bowling honours went to Oscar 1/4, Sean 2/5, and Cooper 2/4.
Our batting innings got off to a solid start. However, a few quick wickets saw as limping at 3/27. Although our lads struggled to put decent partnerships together, a win was never really in doubt, eventually passing the girls’ score in the 20th over with two wickets in hand. Batting honours went to Cooper 5* (25), Oscar 9* (21), and Jake 12* (9).
Players of the match went to Cooper, Sean, Oscar, and Jake.
Tier 2 – Rovers Gold v Barron Blue
In the match between Tier 2 Rovers Gold and Barron Blue, our captain Luca won the bat flip and chose to bat first. The opening partnership between Nate and Lucas held strong against the opening bowlers. However, we faced setbacks as we lost wickets regularly. Luca, our standout batter, played his most mature innings of the season, remaining unbeaten with 25 runs off 30 balls before retiring. Our team managed to reach a total of 8 for 67.
Our bowling and fielding performances were exceptional. We maintained tight lines, making Barron Blue work hard for every run. In the field, we dropped only one catch throughout the innings, took a couple of screamers, executed a stumping, and achieved two run-outs. It was an impressive display overall. If the coach had only repainted the stumps before the game, we might have even had another direct hit runout that only narrowly missed the stumps.
Luca, who starred with the ball in his man of the match display, finished with figures of 2 for 11 off his 3 overs, while Rocco contributed with 2 for 8 off his 3 overs, including a fantastic caught-and-bowled dismissal.
Despite our efforts, Barron Blue managed to surpass our score with just 2 wickets remaining and a couple of overs to spare. Our boys displayed tremendous resilience in the field, defending a low total with determination.
JUNIOR RESULTS – TIER 1
Tier 1 – Rovers Red 122 v Norths 165.
Captain Jacob lost the bat flip and we were sent in. Everyone batted with positive intent and despite the soft outfield we found the boundary on quite a few occasions. The loss of quite a few wickets meant we faced an uphill battle against our older and more experienced opponents.
Our decision to warm up for fielding by “playing” with the endeavour park plover population raised some eyebrows with the parents and our handsome coach but we knew exactly what we were doing. Our fielding display for the next 20 overs was outstanding – Chad, Ronin and Jacob all snaffled outfield catches with numerous other near misses. Riley chipped in with his weekly direct hit as we took an impressive 9 wickets. A huge improvement from the Redbacks when compared to our early season outing against the same opposition. Our player awards today went to Chad (2 for 5) and Reuben (2 for 4).
Tier 1 – Rovers Green v Barron Red
Rovers lost the bat flip and were sent into bat. Rovers put on a competitive 96 from their 20 overs for the loss of 8 wickets. Andrew (15), Josh (13), Alex (12) and Liam (12) were the top run scorers.
Whilst bowling, Rovers Green were able to take regular wickets. Unfortunately some late order hitting from Barron saw them home with Rovers going down by 3 runs. Charlie (3/13) and Andrew (2/8).
Players awards went to Charlie and Andrew.
Tier 1 – Rovers Gold v Norths Girls
Captain Cooper won the toss and elected to field. Norths girls batted solidly to post 121. Cooper was the pick of the bowlers finishing with 2/11 off 3 overs. Openers Ethan 17 and Daniel 14 got us off to a great start as per usual, and Luca 15, Finn 21 and Jacob 22 punishing the bowling attack to get Gold across the line. Players of the match Daniel and Luca.
