Weekly Update - 9th October

Hello, Rovers fans!

It’s that time again for another edition of our Rovers news update!

This weekend saw the entire line-up in action, except for one team having a bye. Despite some interruptions from the rain that affected both 1st grade and 2nd grade, our resilient 1st-grade team managed to secure a victory. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t as favourable for 2nd grade, and we fell short of the win.

The junior teams brought their A-game, facing off against each other in matches filled with excitement and friendly competition. Laughter, camaraderie, and pure cricket fun were the order of the day.

Stay tuned for all the highlights, scores, and updates from the recent matches.

Reminder Jake and the incredible team from The Hurtlocker Fitness are here each week with their weekly fitness training sessions. Mark your calendars for every Wednesday at 4:45 PM to gear up for a 5 PM start. This is not just an opportunity to get fit but a chance to make the most of your time while your kids are in training.  For the unbeatable price of $10 per session, you can join in on the fitness fun. JUNIOR RESULTS

Tier 1
Rovers Green v Rovers Red

Green one the toss and elected to bat first.  Green were well led with the bat by Toby (14), Alex (13), Finn (9) and Zac (9) in posting a competitive score.  Tight bowling from all Green players restricted Red with Green ultimately prevailing.  Best bowlers for Green were Alex (2/2) and Liam (1/2).

Well done to Finn, Alex, Liam, Ben and Daniel, all playing their first game of club cricket.

Players of the match were Alex and Finn.

Tier 2
Rovers Gold v Rovers Red – Rovers Red Won!
Red – Rovers Gold won the toss and sent Red in to bat first. After losing a few early wickets, Jett (33) and Jake (27) steadied the ship and help the boys post a defendable 127. Our bowlers bowled well without reward early however showed persistence and were rewarded after the drinks break managing to bowl Rovers Gold out for 81. Wil was the chief destroyer with 3 wickets. Players of the match were Jett, Tommy, Jake and Wil.

Gold – In the Tier 2 clash between Gold and Red, Gold opted to bowl after winning the toss. Elijah made a scintillating start to the season by taking 2 wickets in the first 3 balls and securing a third wicket in his second over. The fielding highlight was a screamer of a catch taken at point by Lucas. The Gold team did a commendable job in containing Rovers Red’s classy middle order, limiting them to a total of 127.

When it came to batting, Luca and Lucas opened well, with Lucas contributing a solid 22 runs. The team displayed great determination throughout the match and managed to post a total of 81. This marks a promising start to the season for a very young team, with plenty of potential on display.

The standout performers of the match were Elijah and Lucas, earning them the Players of the Match title.

Rovers Green v Mulgrave Gordonvale JHC – Won!
The first round of the season saw the green machines take on Mulgrave at Endeavour Park.  Bowling first to settle the nerves, Mulgrave got off to a flyer scoring 128 with only 3 wickets down.  Great bowling by Travis 1-6 off 3 overs, Evan 1-16 off 3 overs and Brodie 1-9 off 4 overs.

With the target set to chase down 128 and after some delicious afternoon tea provided by Tess the team was ready for the run chase.  Our top 6 batters got us off to a great start and we were able to chase down the target within 20 overs with Caleb hitting the winning runs. Our total was 3-177.  Hugh topped scored with 31 not out and Brodie fired in 1 over hitting 5 fours in a row off their opening bowler.

Shout out to players of the match and our new green machines, Travis, Evan and Joash. Welcome to the team.

Tier 3
Super Global Services Rovers v BRCC U18 mixed – Lost

PLAYHQ

PlayHQ has some scoring training on this week for anyone that would like to learn/refresh their memory. This would be good if 2-3 people per team (tier2 & 3) could do so each team can rotate scoring each week.
